In Which the Dragonborn Discovers Serious Weirdness in the Blue Palace

The main highlight of this Skyrim run was doing the quest called “The Mind of Madness”, which involves you investigating what’s really going on with the Pelagius Wing of the Blue Palace in Solitude. Other than that, I tried to follow up on a couple other quests, but those didn’t go so well!

In Which the Dragonborn Makes the Thalmor Very Cranky

This post actually covers both Saturday and Sunday for Skyrim–because going through the Thalmor Embassy quest, “Diplomatic Immunity”, took a lot of work. And I backtracked a couple of times, not only during that primary quest, but also afterwards when I was trying to decide what to do next.

So, major highlights of this post include:

  • Infiltrating the party at the Thalmor Embassy, in a rather more violent manner than anticipated, yet also getting out alive with NPCs and the information Delphine sent me there for
  • Going to Solitude after to knock out a couple of minor quests: finding out for Angeline what happened to her daughter, and getting Noster’s helmet back for him

Let’s get to it, shall we?

In Which the Dragonborn Becomes Thane of Falkreath

Major highlights of last night’s Skyrim run:

  • Took on the 2nd of three quests to become thane of Falkreath, and recovered a journal for the Altmer priest Runil
  • Took on the 3rd of those quests, which involved a little light thievery for former Jarl Dengeir
  • Killed not one but two different dragons
  • Killed a vampire at the behest of Falkreath’s former Jarl
  • Actually became Thane of Falkreath, and gained housecarl #3
  • Had Lydia get killed on me three times which was not acceptable, so time to improve her armor
  • Did a bit more building of things at Windstad Manor

Details behind the fold!

In Which the Dragonborn Rescues a Hunter, Discovers a Werewolf, and Kills a Giant and More Bandits

Last night’s goal was predominantly “see how many people of Falkreath I can help so as to become Thane”. This wound up leading me to four different overall themes for the evening, only one of which actually ticked an item off the “Assist the people of Falkreath” quest:

  1. Killing a giant southwest of Whiterun’s western watchtower to fulfill a Falkreath bounty
  2. Investigating why a party of hunters went missing
  3. Discovering that the death of a little girl in Falkreath was at the hands of a werewolf—who was cursed by the Daedric Prince Hircine
  4. Killing yet more bandits to fulfill another Falkreath bounty

In Which the Dragonborn Gets Nettlebane and Has to Fight Bandits at Her Own Damn House

Last night’s run broke down into two overall categories:

  1. Getting the artifact dagger called Nettlebane, in the quest The Blessings of Nature, to help the priestess Danica Pure-Spring in Whiterun, and
  2. Doing some building work at Windstad Manor and getting jumped by bandits on my own goddamn front porch. BOOOOO.

In Which Alarrah Becomes a Thane of Morthal

I’m afraid I broke my last Skyrim post’s mirror over to Dreamwidth, so for the benefit of those of you reading this post from there, here’s the link to my previous Skyrim writeup:

In Which the Dragonborn Goes to Morthal and Slays a Giant

And now we rejoin our regularly scheduled Dragonborn!

Tonight’s goal: finish off becoming Thane of Morthal, and seeing what all that actually gets me. Answer: my very own buildable house, yay! And a whole extra housecarl!

In Which the Dragonborn Goes to Morthal and Slays a Giant

Still not entirely ready to take on main plot quests again, I decided for last night’s Skyrim run that my goal was going to be returning to Morthal and seeing if I could help a couple more of their people so that I could become Thane.

First, the obligatory shopping run. Got rid of a lot of things, and bought a few other things—including picking up some steel plate armor to better outfit Lydia, and some boots as well. That armor does not go well with the dwarven helmet and gauntlets. I need to get her a less silly looking helmet.

Adventures in Skyrim Up Till Now

I’ve been posting play by play updates of my adventures in Skyrim, a thing that folks are telling me on both Twitter and Facebook that they enjoy reading. It has, however, occurred to me that it might actually be nice to post that stuff to the blog! Not only for the sake of new actual content, but also for the sake of anybody who actually reads my blog (or the Dreamwidth mirror), and who might be entertained by my Skyrim adventures.

I’m not going to re-post all the play by plays up to this point, just because redoing them is work I don’t feel like doing. But to bring everybody who doesn’t follow me on social media up to speed, here’s where I am in the game so far. (And while this is primarily a summary of in-game activity, I’m also throwing in periodic in-character commentary, just because this is so immersive a game that it really does feel like my old MUSHing days.)

Lots of gaming geekery behind the fold!

Yeah okay Skyrim IS pretty awesome

As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve turned into a console gamer thanks to Paul giving me a Switch!

And I gotta say, while Animal Crossing continues to be highly entertaining, I’m getting just as much enjoyment out of playing Skyrim. I’ve been doing play by plays of my progress on both Facebook and Twitter, since multiple people are telling me they’re highly enjoying experiencing Skyrim again through my first-time eyes.

So I’m not going to go into the play by plays here, but what I will do is talk some about overall things I’m really enjoying about the game play experience. Continue reading “Yeah okay Skyrim IS pretty awesome”

I have become a console gamer!

Like a lot of folks during the pandemic, my housemate Paul got heavily engrossed in playing Animal Crossing. He specifically ordered himself a Nintendo Switch so that he could play it. And from all the things he was sharing about the experience of playing it, a couple weeks ago I started thinking, gosh that sounds like fun, I’d like to play it too I think.

(Lots of details behind the fold!)
