- The wanderer Pacer camps near Lostholt during a time of famine striking that tribe's territory. His wolf Skinner strays from hunting to investigate the Father Tree, and is discovered there by local wolves and elves; a meeting ensues.

- A quiet evening gathering at the base of the Father Tree. Northwind finally gets to present herself to the Lostholt chief and request formal permission to visit with the tribe.

- Northwind shares a bit of her background with Shadows. Redlance is hung over from the Howl the night before.

- Northwind happens on Skywise stargazing and joins him. The stargazer learns a little more about the newcomer and she gets a glimpse of her host tribe's past experiences.

- Cutter leads a band of Lostholters and guests in search for fresh meat for the tribe and, boy, do they find it! The hunt ends with a storm harrying the hunters back to the holt.

- When she and the rest of the Lostholters who had taken the mad Firstborn Doreel and his former captive Oriolle to Sorrow's End return to the Holt after moons of absence, Rillwhisper gets Cutter and Strongbow caught up on all that has transpired in the Sun Village.

- Ynderra briefly breaks her self-imposed isolation at Lostholt when she comes across the visiting Cat Elf Mathryn, and gives him a gift shaped from her magic when she discovers his affection for a member of the tribe.

- Much to her surprise given her recent seasons of seclusion, Ynderra is called to come tend to two wounded Gliders outside the Holt rather than Leetah--and a little disturbed to discover that Larias and Savith were apparently wounded in conflict with her own tribesmates.
