annathepiper.org: writing / old short stories if you want to read
The stories here are all old works of mine dating from high school or very early college and are my oldest surviving short works. Go easy on me when you read these, folks--I did write them in high school! Still, I'm nostalgically fond of them.
@ "The Riddle of the Golden Dragon"
This one I originally wrote, as I recall, as part of a creative writing assignment in English my senior year.

@ "The Sea Prince"
I won second prize in a creative writing contest with this one--and so far this is the only short story of mine to actually see print, though granted it was just in my partner's own fanzine, Low Orbit. Still, there's a fair amount of egoboo involved in both of those.

@ "Summer of My Belgian Pen Pal"
What can I say--this one was written in honor of my actual Belgian pen pal, with whom I corresponded through a good chunk of my high school years. I never got to actually meet him, though I suspect that if I had, it would not have gone quite like I wrote it in this story!

I changed a few names to protect the innocents here, including mine; this is one of two in which I used a favorite recurring heroine name of mine at the time: Andrea Halland. Translated as: sounds vaguely like Angela Highland, and was the name I wanted to use when I was writing about somebody I really wanted to be me. (Yep, folks, I was Mary-Sue'ing before I even knew what the concept was!)

@ "Tyler Blue"
I'm not at all certain what brought this one about, looking back on it now--but I'm smelling the influence of certain Elvis movies here, or else just random high school angst. Andrea Halland makes another appearance here, though I'm not exactly sure she's the same Andrea as in the pen pal story. If she is, she's younger here.
