Log Date: 2/19/97 Log Cast: Tance, Shana Log Intro: Tance Vokrim and Kesya As'shoriah have returned to the Ranges; as they've gone out, Kesya has striven to encourage Tance in his desire to help contribute more equally to their partnership by letting him pick the sites they'll land at. But unfortunately, this has meant that a lot of the crystal they've been finding has been various shades of green... and more than once, Kesya has had to drag Tance off a claim before his proximity to the crystal throws him into thrall... and threatens his fragile, unsteady memories, especially of her. But as it happens, one claim Tance lands at turns out to have another Singer landed there already.... ---------- Tance brings the sled to a gentle landing. You step out from the cramped interior of the sled "Meguey Radmynn." Top of the Cliff The area smells salty, and you can hear the sound of ocean waves in the distance. Every now and then, a scurrying catches your attention, where you inevitably find a crab-like denizen going about its symbiont-adapted business. In the warm light of the afternoon, the scoured surface of the cliff face on which you find yourself is a deep pink-grey. The ocean scent fills your nostrils and for a brief moment it seems you might be on a less treacherous world. An crack opens into the ground before you, leading eastwards and down into the cliff itself. There is a piss-green countermark messily dashed around, indicating that this claim has been released. Contents: Tance's sled Shana Shana's sled Obvious exits: Rocky Gorge Once the newly arriving sled is down, its hatch opens, and Tance pokes his head out -- only to glower at the sight of the other sled present. He'd missed that from the air. And now, he mutters, "Kark it!" Shana leans up against her sled, staring pensively into the gorge, cutter absent from her back. As Tance's sled lands, she looks over at the emerging Singer, surprised. "Oh, um..hi." Tance, without any sign of recognition, waves grumpily, turning to climb back into the sled he'd just landed. "Probably karkin' green anyway, I'm gone...." Shana pushes away from her sled, limping awkwardly as she takes a few hesitant steps toward Tance, "Wait! Umm.. It's not green, it's yellow. I just..I was just enjoying the view before I left." Tance looks baffledly back over his shoulder. "Huh?" Shana stops as he turns and explains again, "Yellow. The vein's yellow. I came to.." This is unique, having to put into words -why- she's here at all. "It used to be mine, but I released it. I thought it might be best..um..for me." Tance's brow furrows as he turns back to face you, brown eyes full of puzzlement. His gaze lifts to scan the immediate terrain, taking in the countermark, and he says, "Lemme get this straight, girlie... there's _still_ crystal here, and you ain't cuttin' it?" Shana takes a quick but awkward step back, not quite expecting you to turn so quickly. Stammering yet again, not at all seeming like Kesya's partner as chief of training, she says, "I don't.. I don't want it. I just came back to release it, I..I didn't..hadn't intended to stay for so long." She waves a hand down toward the gorge, "You c'n have it if you want... just be careful. The climb's easy. But don't stay after dark." Tance blinkblinks, studying you with even more bafflement, though he still doesn't seem to show any sign of knowing who you are. "Um, if you're sure," he says, half his attention already clearly on searching around for the path to the vein, though the rest of it lingers on you. That might even be a rough kind of concern in his weathered features. "I'm sure," the dark-haired Singer says, with a nod. "But be careful. After dark... bad things happen." Her eyes cloud as she steps backward to her sled, still watching you. Whatever these 'bad things' are, she doesn't seem to want to face them herself, much less actually talk about them, but they do seem to have an effect on her, if the dark circles under her eyes are any clue. Tance, still eyeing you with something like concern, says blankly, "Okay, girlie... thanks... um... I know where some green is? At least.... my sled computer does..." Shana blinkblinks in surprise, "Umm? You mean..like trade?" She mulls over this for awhile, then shakes her head, "I...thanks, but.. I should get back to JPF. I don't know when I'll be able to cut again, probably not til this class is done. Graidan's been leaving messages for Kesya and me like crazy. Don't want to go paint something that I won't even get to cut before the mark goes again." Tance blinks at the word 'Kesya'.... he takes a step forward. "You know Jade? She's searchin', with me...." His brow crinkles. "Should I know you, girlie?" Shana tosses the braid back over her shoulder and looks at you for a long time. "I know Kesya. Have since she got to Ballybran, helped train her class. Now, we're in charge of the department." Realizing that she hasn't actually offered her name yet, she cracks a weak smile, "I'm Shana. And you...you must be Tance." Tance bobs his head, slowly, still looking quite distracted and confused. "Yeah... I'm Tance... I'm, um, sorry, kid, I can't remember names to save my life..." He fumbles a flight-gloved hand into a pocket of his clothes, pulls out a battered little datapad, and tells you, "Lemme put you in here..." Type type type. "Shana. Shana. You know Kesya. Okay." If you listen hard, you can hear crystal resonance rushing dimly between your ears. Shana manages a grin this time, nodding, "It's okay if you don't remember. I've had that happen to me often enough." She takes another backward step, closer to the hatch of her sled this time. "Quinn's sleeping," she offers needlessly, "and I should really get back. Um.." Changing her mind about climbing into her sled, at least for the moment, she takes a few steps toward you and extends a hand. "It's nice to finally meet you, Tance. Funny circumstances, but it's nice all the same." Tance accepts the offered hand in his own gloved one, and shakes it; he grins crookedly. "Thanks. I can't cut green, so I gotta have somethin' else. I owe yah, girlie." Tance, with that, suddenly turns back to the datapad again, and flicks it open to type into it, muttering to himself, "Gave me claim. Gotta remember that. Owe yah." "Just take care of yourself. And take care of Kesya," Shana insists, stepping back toward her sled again. "That's all I want." With another weak sort of smile, she climbs into her sled. Tance calls after, "Thanks," even as he hastens off to find the yellow crystal. Shana steps into the airsled "Alqualonde." Shana has left. [End log.]
