Log Date: 1/3/97 Log Cast: Kesya, Rosa, Tance Log Intro: Now that they have returned to Shankill Station, Kesya has found that her brief trip up there with Tance served mostly to let her duties on Ballybran itself pile up. Reluctant to leave Tance alone, she nevertheless arranges to help him finish the cleaning of his rooms by getting him several cleaning 'bots to do the walls and carpeting for him, and over the day or two that follows, she makes a point of regularly checking on him. Tance for his part is amazed enough by the notion of his rooms being habitable that he never strays far from watching the 'bots do their work. Knowing that Tance is safely occupied, Kesya goes about _her_ work, and while she does, she runs into Rosa up in the Recruit Lounge.... ---------- Kesya walks in from the lift area. Kesya has arrived. Kesya walks in quietly, her datapad held in one hand. She seems fairly preoccupied, frowning to herself, but then looks up. "Oh, hello Rosa." Kesya flops into a chair near the other trainer, closing her datapad. Kesya treads over to the lounge. Kesya sits down on a chair in the lounge. Rosa is sitting on a sofa, sipping an ale and peering at the datapad in her hand. At the sound of footsteps, she looks up, smiling slightly. "Kesya, hello," she says, setting the pad down. "Back from Shanny?" Rosa paces over to the lounge. Rosa sits down on a couch in the lounge. Kesya nods lightly, her hair done in little braids that trail down her back. An unusual style for the head trainer. "Yes, got back earlier today. It was nice getting all the work done I had to do up there, but now there's a whole other load down here!" The green skinned singer snorts softly, casting you a derisive smile. "I don't think I'll ever catch up. How've you been?" Absently patting the pink teddy bear at her side, Rosa quirks a wry grin. "Nice getting away while you've got the chance, eh? Two more dropped today, I'm told. So 2022's well underway." She takes another sip of ale. "Me? I'm well, more or less. Debating taking a quick trip out to check on a good site I found recently." Kesya grins wryly at you. "Actually, seven are down now, of the fifteen. We had a close call with Ambrose, but he's recovering." Rosa chuckles. "Well, that's nearly half. Wonder if any of them will be coming up soon? There are some good prospects, of those I've seen." She pats the bear's head again. "Ambrose is Rhianna's ward, isn't he? Glad to hear he's pulling through all righ." Kesya's silver-blue eyes regard you a long moment, as she nods. "Um hmm. Well, some do look better than we've had in a while, so I'm hopeful." Smiling warmly, she asks, "How do you like training so far? Not too busy?" Rosa twirls a strand of curly red hair around a finger, nodding. "It'll be interesting to see how some of them adapt. This is my first class, as Trainer, you know." She closes one eye in a wink. "And, actually, I'm enjoying the work. Hasn't kept me tooo busy yet." Kesya's lean frame settles into the chair, making her seem more relaxed and open all of a sudden. Just the person to talk to, isn't she? "That's why I asked. I was frenzied during my first class, but then, I was taking over for a few people too." Kesya regards you evenly, "There are a few areas where I could use an 'apprentice' of sorts, if you're up for it." "Actually," Rosa says, "the other trainers have been remarkably helpful when I've had questions. Nothing too unusual has happened yet." Setting her glass down, she leans forward slightly on the sofa, towards you. "An apprentice of sorts? Well," she says, eyes twinkling, "if you don't mind an apprentice with a pink teddy bear, I think I'd like it." Kesya eyes the teddy bear amusedly, one brown-clad shoulder raising in a shrug. "Well," she grins, returning the wink, "I rather like him. Daron used to be passing those out all the time." She pauses, leaning forward to rest her elbows casually on her knees. The green-skinned trainer looks over at you, sea-green braids spilling over one shoulder. Her trill is uncommonly light... she must feel rested. "We're lacking trainers to follow up on adaptees, see how their post-adapt training is going." Kesya goes on, "As a junior trainer I took on Shepherding, but nobody has ever taken on anything /past/ that. So we don't really know how they're doing when they reach their departments." She smiles at you, "Feel up to it?" Rosa pats the little bear's head, looking down at him with a fond smile. "Shana gave him to me not too long ago. I've grown awfully attached to him." She settles back and listens to you, nodding occasionally. "So you'd like me to help check up on people who've already adapted, to make sure their training is properly completed, to help if they need it?" Kesya beams a smile at you, small teeth stark white against her dark green skin. "Yes, exactly! And to let me know if anything is awry." She shrugs, "Not too intense, and a more 'friendly' aspect of the department." The black-adapted Singer adds casually, "Actually, that reminds me. I just shepherded Tance not too long ago, and I wouldn't mind someone to keep an eye on him in the same fashion." Kesya's blue eyes peer at you peripherally, to check your reaction as she goes on. "He's making remarkable strides, you know. Just to... make sure he doesn't need help at all, and to encourage his using the datapad.. an extra resource for him." Kesya pauses, waiting for your answer. Does she seem more tense now than she did a few moments ago, almost as though she were proverbially sitting on the edge of her seat? Too hard to tell. "I like the braids," Rosa says, nodding toward your hair. She then chuckles. "Well, my credit level and my resonance are both of respectable levels, so I'm not too likely to snap at anyone. I think I could do that, Kesya." SHe pauses a moment, listening again, her smile widening when Tance is mentioned. "You know, I had a lovely chat with him up on Shanny. He's really very nice, and awfully fond of you. I enjoyed his company then. It really wouldn't seem like work to keep an eye on him, you know." She edges forward on the sofa. "It'd be a pleasure for me to spend a little time with him." Kesya's eyes widen at the phrase, 'He's awfully fond of you', but she clears her throat and just eyes her datapad. Lovely distraction, that. Great tool to use when trying to look professional. "That's great. I'd do it myself, but I've got too much work now." Kesya's silver-blue eyes drift towards you again. Is her face a little flushed? That darned dark green skin makes it hard to tell. "I do remember seeing you on Shankill. I'm glad he could talk to you." She seems earnest, here. "He has trouble with that." Rosa's lips twitch amusedly as she notes the slightly widened eyes and she reaches toward the table to pick up her glass, taking a sip of the Yarran, still watching you. "I'd noticed that actually," she murmurs. "He didn't seem used to talking to people..has he had a hard time of it? I don't know him at all well, but Tance has been in the Guild a long time, hasn't he?" Kesya nods, gaze fixed thoughtfully on your expression. _Why's she looking at me like that?_ "Well, yes. He /used/ to be famous for his bad attitude, but I never got any of that." She shrugs. "Lately though, some memory has returned, and he's.. changing." "Yes," Rosa drawls, crossing one leg over the other. "I'd heard about Tance and some of his...little scenes. Hard to associate it with the shy, rather sweet man I met up on Shanny." She frowns thoughtfully, again sipping at her ale. "Changing? How? Because his memory is returning?" Kesya's gaze doesn't leave you for a few moments. _That woman is entirely too sure of herself for some reason._ She shakes her head, blinking. _Ech. Can't worry 'bout it now._ "Well," she says thoughtfully, "He's feeling more comfortable around people now..." "I think perhaps, because he sees that they all aren't 'out to get him', or laughing at him, or whatever. He's hardest on himself." Her expression turns weary. "You should /hear/ the way he talks about himself. But it's getting better." Rosa settles back in the large sofa, one hand holding her ale glass, the other resting lightly on her bear's head. The expression on her face turns slightly quizzical as she notices the intensity of your gaze, but then she shrugs again. With a little smile, she nods. "He didn't quite seem to know what to do when I started talking to him," she says quietly. "But once he got going, he really did seem kind. And if his attitude is changing, it can only be good for him, and for those people who care for him." Her smile widens just a bit, for a moment. "So you'd like me to keep an eye on him, for a while, down here? To make sure he continues to get better?" Kesya gives you a grateful smile, her tension seeming to melt away at your words. "I'd love that. I do appreciate it." She stands, and pauses, thoughtful. "I was just going to head down to his suite and see how the 'bot is doing. Want to join me?" Kesya adds, "It'd help, particularly if he doesn't remember you on sight yet." Rosa returns the smile, her amber eyes twinkling. "Kesya, don't mention it. If Tance is your friend, and needs a little help, then I shall be glad to do what I can." At your question, she nods, standing as well. "Certainly, I'll go down with you to see him. Not too sure he'll remember me, seeing as we did only meet the once." Kesya nods doubtfully, small braids brushing against the back of her neck. "Hrm. He does tend to remember those who are nice to him, but we'll see." She grins over her shoulder at you as she heads towards the lifts, "I've had to re-introduce myself... a lot." Kesya steps into the lift area with muffled steps. Kesya has left. Chuckling, Rosa nods. "We'll see indeed. Maybe he /will/ remember me." Picking up her bear and tucking it under an arm, she follows Kesya out of the lounge. Rosa steps into the lift area with muffled steps. Rosa has left. [And, later....] You hear a soft chime and an electronic voice announces that Kesya is in Ocher Quadrant and is knocking on Tance's Suite. To Ocher Quadrant, Tance's privacy light is set to Green, and from within, a distracted-sounding voice calls out, "It's open..." Kesya steps in from the hall. Kesya has arrived. Rosa steps in from the hall. Rosa has arrived. Kesya steps in, followed by Rosa. "Hey there Tance," she says cheerily. "Thought we'd come by and see how you're doing." Tance is sitting in the one chair in the room, his un-casted arm draped across its back, and as you two enter, he looks up from fascinated contemplation of the cleaning bot chugging away in one of the empty corners of the chamber. "Jade... oh..." His gaze shifts between you both and he starts to get up. Tance announces, pointing to one of the scrubbed spots on the wall -- this one bright enough that the 'bot must surely have done it -- "My walls really are green!" Rosa, bear under her arm, comes into the room just after Kesya. Her eyes widen slightly for a moment at the condition of the room she sees, and the cleaning bot, but she quickly pastes a happy, friendly smile on her face. "Hello Tance," she says brightly. "They certainly are green, aren't they, those walls?" Kesya's smile widens as you point out the one really clean spot on the wall. Tossing back her head with a laugh, she links her arm through your good one. "How long'd it take the 'bot to do that?" She winks, but adds, "It's a pretty shade." Tance's brow furrows, first at Rosa, then at her bear, and finally at Kesya's question. "Um... I dunno..." He looks helplessly around the room before finishing plaintively, "I don't have a chrono." Kesya fixes a blank stare on Tance at that statement, and she tries to quash a suddenly amused expression -- but to no avail. Eyes shining, she shrugs at Rosa. "Well, it can stay here as long as it takes to finish 'em." The bot steadily scrubs, its extended arm slowly coaxing an actual hue out from under the grime that appears to have thoroughly coated every wall in this room. Green, indeed -- a nice mid-foresty hue. Rosa follows Kesya over to the chair, eyes darting toward the cleaning bot for a moment. She turns back in time to catch Kesya's glance and nods, eyes twinkling. "Absolutely," she says, nodding. "And that green truly is a nice shade. Restful." "If it's okay... I wouldn't mind staying in here so much maybe if I got to look at green...." The man cocks his head. "But doesn't it have to clean your room, too, Jade?" Kesya looks around, almost like a _Woman_With_A_Mission_. She tosses casually over her shoulder, "What sort of art do you like, Tance?" Turning, she responds, "I'm not /in/ my suite long enough for it to get dirty." Tance slouches a bit against the back of the chair before him, embarrassed. "Not in here much either -- least I don't think so -- but it's dirty anyway... um.... art?" Rosa, idly patting her bear's head, arcs a brow at Kesya's question, then adds, "A bit of art might brighten the place up a bit. Make it more homey." [At this point in the log Rosa's player had to disconnect, so we will assume she was unexpectedly called away...] Kesya nods, moving back towards the man. "Sure. Art. Do you like paintings, or pen and inks, or.. landscapes..." she shrugs, then grins at Rosa. "right." Tance says anxiously, "I had some. I think I had to sell it." Kesya quiets, looking at the man for a long moment. "You're kidding.. that's awful, Tance." She arches a brow, a sly expression you're well used to now on her face. "Well, I _do_ happen to know where there's art just lying around." Tance shakes his head earnestly. "I think that's how come I don't have anything...." He looks around the room again, and its several square feet of.... empty space. "Had to sell it." Kesya slides her arm around your back, looking about. "Makes sense," she says critically. "You must have been darned rich once, to make it to this level. But the rent is... extreme, too." Kesya looks at you for a moment. Tance baffledly mumbles, "Surprised they didn't move me..." Kesya spins towards you, an air of excitement around her. "Tance," she starts slyly, eyes on your vest, "Would you let me do you a favour? It'd be fun." Tance blinks, looking up at you. Kesya's white teeth flash as she quickly smiles, looking like a cheshire cat. "I suppose you want me to /tell/ you," she laments. "But... okay. I have an idea for your suite that I'm sure you'd like." Tance answers a little startledly, "You think I should move, too?" Kesya's eyes widen in shock, her chin dropping. "What? No, no!" Laughing, she gives you a quick hug. "No Tance, I was asking if you'd let me use some of /my/ old stuff to fix up your place. I don't use it, it's just in storage wasting away." You feel crystal caressing you softly along your nerves. Non-singers around you see: A faint chill seems to pass over you as Tance looks at you, but he doesn't seem to react to it. Kesya's eyes are shining as she gazes at you, almost bouncing in excitement over the little project. She's standing not a half foot from you, beaming. "So? How 'bout it?" "You..." Blink. "Want to give me..." Another blink, and Tance is suddenly looking rather shaken. Kesya's expression falls. "What's wrong?" Kesya misunderstands, her expression worried. "I know it wouldn't be the /nicest/ stuff... only what I had in my original suite when I first adapted." She wrinkles her nose, "Student fare, really. But still, it /could/ look nice..." Tance lifts a strangely.... humble?.... face to your own, and whispers, "You wanna... gimme furniture?" Kesya cups your face in her hands, eyes searching yours to try to figure out why you're so stupified by this. "Yeah," she says softly, "I do. It's old, and it's cheap, but it's furniture." "I don't..." Now he looks almost... no, _definitely_ ashamed. "Nothin' to give you... don't deserve..." Kesya's eyes turn pained at the expression in your face, and she bites her lip, unsure of what to say. "But Tance! You've given me so much already!" Kesya's gaze drops to your vest again, brows furrowed as she tries to explain. "You can't /know/ how much you've given me," she insists. "And all I've given you has been leftovers that I don't even use anymore." "And new clothes, and.... and a datapad," Tance protests, quickly, even as he lifts his right hand to one of yours. "And the black, I remember the black, and... and... you let me be with you...." He trails off. Kesya's wide eyes turn up fix on your brown gaze, her nose wrinkling as she shakes her head. "The clothes didn't cost a thing, and those datapads are the same." At the mention of the black though, her expression turns soft. "Tance," she says gently, "Don't you realize that that was for /me/?" She chuckles, a musical sound. "And... being with you... don't you see that /I/ wanted that too?" "But... but Jade, I haven't given... don't have a thing..." Tance's voice is husky and shy as always, but his gaze stays pointed up at yours, unusually direct, unusually intent. Then, a wan half-smile crooks his mouth. "Don't think you want the rest o' my old shipsuits and boots, or, um, my broken datapad..." Kesya's mouth quirks in a lopsided smile at the joke, and she squeezes your hand, her own dropping from your face. "No, what you've given me is much better than that." She sighs, trying to explain... the struggle of finding the right words evident in her face. Tance watches you raptly, as though awaiting a pronouncement from the Guildmaster himself. When you stop to relax you can feel a pleasant humming in your body. Non-singers around you see: You notice that Tance becomes slightly distracted at times. The woman before you begins, haltingly. "You know, when I first met you, you were mainly just very interesting to me. Different. I wanted to help because you seemed so badly that you needed it." She chuckles, flashing you a smile. "But as I got to know you, you became a good friend, someone I could trust..." Her braids drop behind her shoulders as she turns to look at you. "And someone I really care about. And I haven't had that in... a long time." Waving a hand in the air, "I tend to be more distant from folks just through how busy I am and the work that I do... and partly the crystal I sing. So having you to come to that vein with me was something I really needed." Kesya pauses, silent a moment, and asks, "Now do you see... part of what you've given me? I don't /need/ material things, I've /got/ them all." Tance reaches for your hand again, clasping it. He is silent with every word you speak; told of your caring, he draws in a slight astonished breath. Told that he indeed gave you something you needed, he smiles, eyes brightening, softening, though still with that new intensity. His gaze never leaves you, and only when you are done does he murmur, "I c.... care, too, Jade; everybody else I forget, but you, you I remember." He, too, pauses, before he adds with careful enunciation, "Kesya." Kesya casts you an astonished expression, silver-blue gaze fixed on you as a slow smile spreads across her lips and is mirrored in her eyes. "You... remembered that?" It's obvious she thought you'd have forgotten it long ago. Tance simply, slowly, nods. That smile, that delicate expression, turns warm, the blue eyes giving you a long, searching look before she slowly sits before your chair. Well, nowhere else in the room to sit. "So," she says gently, then stops, unsure of how to continue. Kesya swallows, all of a sudden seeming interested in your carpeting. "So, I guess I don't really know what to make of all this," she begins, a little tense. No, a _lot_ tense. "But.. it's nice to know you care about me too." She smiles up at you, tentatively. Tance starts to protest as you sit down, and he says hastily, "The, the bot hasn't cleaned.... do you wanna sit here?" At your smile, he freezes, before he can really get up, tranfixed. "Would... would it make you happy.... to put stuff, in here?" If you listen hard, you can hear crystal resonance coursing gently through your body. Non-singers around you see: If you happen to be very close to Tance, the fine hairs on your arms stand on end, but Tance doesn't appear to notice anything. Kesya obviously doesn't care how clean the floor is beneath her bottom, as her attention now goes again to that kind, guileless expression of yours. She actually laughs softly at your question, and nods. "It'd make me very happy." He beams down at you, then, and suddenly nods firmly. "Okay." Kesya's quick laughter sounds through the room. She takes your hand, smiling fondly at you, then sobers. A lighthearted caution, next: "I warn you tough... it's not the /nicest/ stuff you'll find around..." Surely it can't be too bad though, being Kesya, since her first day in the Ranges, has never been poor. Chances are it'll suit Tance's suite readily. Tance laughs -- actually _laughs_, a brief but rich sound. "Ain't sure you noticed, but anything in here'd be a kark of a sight better'n' nothin'," he points out. Kesya's startled gaze looks about, as though just noticing how /empty/ the place is, again. Her laughter joins yours, just for a moment. "I s'pose you're right at that," she says amusedly, eyes dancing. "We can work on it together, okay?" And again, he beams at you, agreeing, "Together." [End log.]
