Log Date: 9/15/96 Log Cast: Tance, Kayalina, Krellin Log Intro: Following her adaption to Tuner, Kayalina, remembering the old, gruff Singer she'd met prior to her symbiont-induced illness, goes looking for Tance Vokrim.... ---------- Kayalina quietly enters the Long Term Care facility. Kayalina has arrived. Kayalina looks around the room, and seeing Tance moves over to him. "Hiya Tance." Tance is sitting curled up on one of the beds in this ward, a blanket huddled around him, expression dark, bemused. At the sound of his name, his gaze flicks to the door. Kayalina looks at you for a moment. Tance blinks several times, as though he's awakened from a not entirely pleasant dream; oddly bashfully, he mutters, "You. Talked to you." Kayalina sits down next to his bed, "Its me, Kaya. I heard you were here and so I came to see if you'd like to have something to eat. Yes you have talked to me, glad you could remember." "Eat," mutters the grizzled Singer, wonderingly. "Can't afford it..." Kayalina snorts, "I'm already in dept, and so I'll pay for both of us." His brow furrows, but, strangely, he offers no protest, only a low muttr: "Hungry." Kayalina breaks into a smile, prolly thinking he would say he ate already, "Well, come on then." Tance blinks. "Where?" Tance then stares down at himself. Hungry, yes... very. You can hear his stomach growling noticeably. Kayalina shrugs as she stands up, "anywhere you want. I just want a place with a catering unit." Long Term Care This large room houses those Singers who are on inactive status. Most of the Singers here have no chance of recovery. Their brains have been scrambled due to Mach storms or extreme memory loss from cutting crystal for decades. A velvet black stripe winds its way around the room. Looking down the rows of bodies, you can detect only occasional sporadic movements. Contents: Kayalina Rembil Master Monitoring Station(#3174V$) Obvious exits: Infirmary Tance rises, grudgingly. "Food," he repeats, sounding rather more eager this time. Kayalina grins at the old singer and heads toward the door, "Well just don't stand there, I'm starving." Kayalina casts a glance to make sure Tance was following and heads towards the lifts. Kayalina leaves Long Term Care looking very sombre. Kayalina has left. You've seen enough in here and decide to leave. Infirmary(#403RAM) The main infirmary is a bustling place with medics, orderlies and patients constantly moving about. The floor is covered with a sterile-looking white tile, the walls painted with stripes of various colours. A velvet black stripe leads past several medical offices to Long Term Care, while a dark red stripe leads off in the direction of Short Term facilities. At the nearest end to the lifts, a large administration area has been set up, complete with monitors and computer equipment lining the walls behind the long counter. Towards the other end of the room, several examination tables sit quietly amongst movable privacy screens and sterile cabinets. Since the infirmary is so buried so far underground, only the strongest Passover storms produce any sub-vocal resonances. The ever-present smell of medicines and antispetics hangs in the air. The lighting on this level has been set to a steady warm glow for the afternoon hours. Lift Area - 12 The colors are dimmer here, even to your enhanced eyes. The air filters cannot completely mask the scent of medicine and sickness here, though. This well carpeted area circumscribes a circle with the center being filled by a shiny lift tube. On the doors to the tube is the number 12. There is a button set into the wall, you may summon a 'lift.' Kayalina leans against the wall, waiting for the slow singer. "The recruit lounge okay? I don't know anywhere else." Kayalina glances around, studying the room more closly then she has usually, "I never knew what a diffrence there was that the others were seeing.." She mumbles this to herself, but of course your enhanced hearing can pick it up. Tance abruptly blushes, muttering, "Recruit," as though it stings him. Kayalina grins, "Not any more Tance. The symbiont finally finsihed with me. Being bed ridden for a few weeks sure does make moving a joy." Lift 3 leaves with a soft *whoosh*. Lift 3 has left. Lift 3 arrives with a soft *whoosh*. Lift 3 has arrived. Tance blinkblinks and peers at you, brow furrowing. Kayalina Streaks of red lightning disrupt the tranquility of the night-dark hair, which reaches its end at the base of her neck. Her pale complection, due to lack of real sunlight, makes her seem almost frail and weak. Dark violet eyes, hard and refusing to reveal anything, are set on either side of her small creamy nose, perfect except that it turns up slightly. Lips, the color of a blistering fire, brings life to her face when they break into a smile. A loose black t-shirt sports a fadded picture of a sleak and gracefull white kitten, and escapes the grasps of her jeans. Her blue denium jeans hugs her tightly, revealing her every curve and muscle she has, and eventualy disappears into her leather black ankle boots. Shes grinning like she won a million credits. Kayalina pushes the call button and waits for the lift, "I take it you don't mind the recruit lounge. Excuse my appearance, I haven't washed yet." Kayalina grins at the singer and hops into the lift. Kayalina enters lift 3. Kayalina has left. Krellin emerges from New Arrivals. Krellin has arrived. Krellin enters lift 3. Krellin has left. Lift 3 The smooth metallic walls surround you. You notice to your right is a control panel which contains a row of darkened buttons indicating the levels of the Guild complex ('look panel'). Just 'press' the desired level number and you'll be on your way. Contents: Krellin Kayalina Control Panel You enter the lift. Kayalina nods a polite hello to the medic, "Hi Krellin." Just 'Press #' for service. Example: 'Press 4'. Tance, scowling tensely, edges into the lift after Kayalina. The lift doors slide shut and you feel the slight *pop* of air pressure changes. A soft chime sounds and a computer-generated voice announces: "Above Ground Level (Meteorology Control Recruits)." The doors *whoosh* open. Kayalina pushes her floor and grins, "I'm under orders to eat, other ways I'd stick around and chat. No hard feelings Krellin." Kayalina leaves lift 3. Kayalina has left. Krellin is do involved in his own thoughts to notice the scowl. He nods as Kayalina walks out. Tance eyes the medic warily, before edging out. You leave the lift. Lift Area - A1 Levels that are above ground level are not desired locations among guild members because the sonics from even faint breezes vibrate the facility. Accordingly, recruits are given accomodations since they are not affected...yet. However, Flight control and meteorology must have access to the atmosphere in order to function. The big Bay window catches your eye. It overlooks the reception area. You can look through it . This well carpeted area circumscribes a circle with the center being filled by a shiny lift tube. On the doors to the tube are the letters A1. There is a button set into the wall, you may summon a 'lift.' You wander into the recruit lounge. Recruit Lounge This expansive room functions as entertainment area, classroom, and meeting place for the Heptite Guild recruits. On one wall is an entertainment complex, and along another is a row of booths. Several comfortable chairs are arranged in rows across the width of the room facing the screen. In addition, several tables dot the floor space. A vivid turquoise stripe, textured in a fine hatched pattern, leads the way through the doorway off to the left, heading to the accommodation wing for recruits. The sun gleams brightly outside the window. At this time of day there is almost always a class scheduled, and a group of people are listening to an instructor at one side of the room. Kayalina heads over to the catering unit and when Tance comes in she calls back, "What do you want?" Kayalina treads over to the catering unit. Kayalina pauses at Tance's reaction to the room, "Its okay Tance. All the recruits are gone, adapting or adapted." Tance mutters, troubled, "Was supposed to be here." Kayalina turns to face him, looking slightly confused. "You are here." "Before," he barks, irritably, still taking in the sight of the place, taking a few more cautious steps into the room. Kayalina blinks and shakes her head, "I'm sorry. I forgot." Kayalina runs her hand through her hair and changes the subject, "So what do you want to eat? No credit limit." Tance, with that, looks back at you again, and once more with that odd bemusement. "Just... food," he mumbles, voice dropping. Kayalina grins and turns back to the unit, "That takes substience out of the list then." Kayalina spins the menufax around to display the veggie selections. Kayalina peruses the vegetarian selection and orders the Vegetarian Lasagna. Tance finally inches towards a chair, expression suggesting he thinks it will bite him. Tance rambles over to the lounge. Kayalina takes the lasagna and hands it to Tance, "Better eat it before it gets cold. Want anything to drink?" Tance's stomach growls audibly, and he actually gapes at the food, before tearing into it without preamble. Kayalina grins and returns to the unit, dialing up another for herself. Kayalina spins the menufax around to display the selections. Kayalina spins the menufax around to display the beverage selections. Kayalina glances back at Tance, "Name your drink or your going to get orange juice." Kayalina spins the menufax around to display the fruit selections. Kayalina peruses the selections of fruits and orders a glass of orange juice. "Whatever," mumbles Tance between swallows, ungracefully. With the food in front of him he seems to have suddenly decided he is about to die of starvation, and he practically inhales the lasagna. Kayalina takes her jiuce out of the unit and takes a deep swollow of it before dialing up another. Kayalina sits down next to Tance and hands him the OJ, "It almost looks like your the one the docs told to eat. What have you been eating, if at all?" Kayalina digs into her lasagna with a vengence, not bothering with manners or a napkin. Tance's eyes flicker for a moment with something that might be hostility, or perhaps just embarrassment. "Not paid attention," he mumbles, before thrusting another huge forkful in. Kayalina pauses in her eating, "Tance, I may not have alot of credits, but if you _ever_ need anything, don't hesitate to ask." "I..." He, too, stops for a moment, on the word 'need'. Then swallows, slowly, as though a lump of plascrete lodged in his throat. Kayalina glances at Tance worriedly, "You okay?" Tance mumbles, ".... fine," and starts tearing into the food once more, but not quite as fast ast before. Kayalina puts down her fork and frowns, "Its not 'fine'. Tance, you can tell me." Tance doesn't look up, but from the angle of his face, despite his shaggy hair, he can be seen to be blushing. Kayalina watches him silently, but knowing he won't say anything, she continues "Tance, you might not think it, but I'm your friend. I just want to help you." Tance startles, then mutters gruffly, "Not... used to having... friends...." Kayalina smiles and leans over to hug the old singer tightly, "I'll always be here for you- don't forget that." Tance is shivering, now, and he nearly loses his grip on his plate. Kayalina tramps over to the lounge. Kayalina sits down on a chair in the lounge. Kayalina gives Tance a worried look and asks, "Whats wrong?" Tance blinks, swallows again, but this time without food. He looks up, with eyes turned oddly liquid. Kayalina puts her food down and turns toward Tance, "You can tell me Tance, pease- what's bothering you?" Tance barks out roughly, "Easier, when I'd for... gotten..." Kayalina frowns, "Don't say that Tance. Forgetting is never the answear to anything." Tance once more scowls, dolefully, food ignored for the moment. "Always has been," he mumbles. Kayalina sighs, "It's not your fault, but you can't make an excuse from it. Face your memory and try to live with it. I know I'll never understand your stituation, but at least let me help." The man's brown eyes turn bleak. "How?" he croaks. Kayalina blinks in surprise at her meal, it having disapeared, "How Tance? How? I don't know. How do you remeber anything else?Write it down, get used to it to expect it. Your remebering much better now too." Tance then demands, sorrowfully, "Why bother? Why should I remember?" Kayalina stands up, suddenly angry at the old man, "Life is nothing _but_ memories- have you given up on life?" Just as suddenly she walks over to him and kneels down, "Look, I want you to remeber friendship, happiness. I know it will hurt to remeber, but isn't it better to have joy too? Even now, even though you can't remeber you remember that you have pain. Please Tance, happiness is not something to fear." Tance's face hardens, strangely at odds with his still mournful, half-distant gaze. "What happiness?" he returns. "Just me... alone, only woman I've ever loved d---" And he cuts off, paling. Kayalina finishes his sentence, "..ied. So you finally tell me whats been bothering you, thank you Tance. It means alot to me. Now I can help you, or at least try. As my mom used to say, 'just be happy you experiened the joys of life while they lasted' or something close to that. I was too young back then to remeber much." Tance studies you, wary, unsure. But he is, at least, listening. Kayalina changes the subject from her past back to his, "She must have been special, to have put this wall around you. But your life must go on, and you have to accept the pas and carry on. If this is all thats causing yotroubles, then..I've never been good at this, then again I've never had any pratice..anyway, the moral of this is to go on with your life." Tance snorts, then, looking away, abashed. "Not much of a life," he mutters. Kayalina sighs again, "Well, mine isn't excatly made of gold." "But you want to fix mine..." mutters Tance. Blinking, not quite expecting that answear, Kaya replys without thinking, "And I don't go around complaining about it either." Tance's face starts turning a dull shade of crimson. "Didn't, till people started sticking noses in my business..." Tance jerks away, shoving the rest of his food across a table despite the still audible growl of his belly. "Didn't, till people made me remember..." Tance starts to tremble, and moves to get up. Kayalina follows Tance in suit, getting flush with angrer but then pales when he moves, quickly grabbing his arm. Tance snarls, grievedly, "Crying like a karking kid.... leggo..." His voice roughens further. Kayalina's grip is strong dispite her recent adaption, "Tance, I'm sorry. All I wanted to do was help. And I will never let go, my parents taught me that at least." Tance blinks rapidly, and with a petulant tug, frees his hand. But he doesn't go storming off, at least not yet, as he mutters, "Parents..." Kayalina blinks back tears that were threatning to spill and looks away, "I left my parents when I was 6. I've never forgiven myself for that, among other things." At that, he blinks, looking back at you. Kayalina suddenly becomes angry, as if to hide the tears streaking down her cheeks, "What do you think? I had a perfect life? And _what_ do you think your staring at?" Kayalina gets up from the chair. Tance says gruffly, "Don't... need to bawl..." He takes a step back, as though dismayed by the sight of someone else with impending tears. Kayalina continues darkly, "Never said I was-" She takes several steps back, as if that would cure the situation. Kayalina breaks into sobs and turns from Tance and flees the room to her room still in the recruit wing. [End log.]
