Log Date: 12/28/96 Log Cast: Tance, Kesya, Krellin Log Intro: Tance Vokrim is, for the first time he can remember, cutting black crystal -- and even more wondrous to him, he is doing it duo with Kesya As'shoriah. But even before she'd brought him to her black vein, Tance's resonance had been notably high. And after a day of cutting with her, it has soared to the point that it has made it extremely difficult for him to think. Deeply concerned for him and determined to get him back to the JPF where he can soak in a radiant tank, Kesya calls a halt.... ---------- Cavern Contents: Kesya Crystal Vein Obvious exits: Chimney Tance makes his way out of the immediate vein area. A flash of light catches your eye. Kesya points towards the chimney downwards. "Can you get down all right? Be careful... it's slippy." "M'okay... I'll be okay...." Tance repeats this a few times, even as he swings his cutter around to his back, and starts making his way down. You carefully enter the chimney and begin to climb through to the tunnels below. Chimney Obvious exits: Bottom of the Chimney Kesya has arrived. Kesya keeps climbing downwards, helping you along. The lamp he's put onto his head lighting his way, Tance makes an awkward track down the water-slick rocks. More than once he pauses... and on one particularly slick spot, his foot suddenly slips. As you climb the steep rock tube, you loose your grip and tumble into the cave below. You land hard on your left arm. You simultaneously hear a large *crack* of splintering bone and feel excruciating pain as the bones in your arm bend and break. Kesya gasps, her hand reaching out to grab at thin air as she misses you. "Tance!" With a startled yelp, Tance loses his foothold, then flails out for your hand; when he misses that, he flails for a handhold. But he misses that, too -- and all at once, he goes plummeting down the twenty or so feet remaining to the bottom of the chimney. You slide the rest of the way down the chimney and land in the shallow pool of water with a *splash*. Inner Cave Obvious exits: Cave Entrance Above the fallen Singer, Kesya begins to scramble downwards in the darkness, not bothering to test each hand and foothold as she tries to get to you as fast as possible. She calls out, her breath coming quickly. "Tance! Are you okay? Yell up if you're okay!" Kesya has arrived. Kesya makes it to the bottom without breaking anything, and moves quickly to your side, leaning over you worriedly. "Oh gods, I shouldn't have insisted we cut... Tance, are you okay?" Her voice comes in a soft moan, eyes wide in dismay. In the icy water at the base of the rock shaft, the lamp can be seen, glimmering under the pool's surface; the light's fallen off Tance's head. Tance himself can be seen dimly illumined nearby, weakly trying to fumble his way to the wall to pull himself upright. His voice, when he answers you, comes out in a strangled rasp. "H.... here. I'm here... here..." Kesya nods, swallowing noisily as she helps you. "I know hon, I know... " She tries to determine if you've any injuries, and wraps one arm around your torso to try to support you. "Stop moving, 'K Tance? Are you hurt?" Tance's shipsuit is now soaked, and as you grab him in your arms -- brushing against his left one -- he emits a sudden, choked little whimper. "Yes! Yes... I'm hurt. Kark it..." Kesya freezes, trying to hold you without touching anything that might cause you pain. "Where?" You can hear her urgent voice through the darkness. "Where's it hurt, Tance?" Tance grunts roughly, "Arm. Left." Kesya shivers at the feel of resonance crackling from your skin to hers, her arms wrapped about your torso to support you. "Okay. It's probably broken... Can you make it to the sled and I'll splint it there?" "Y... yeah. Sled..." Kesya helps you out of the cave, letting you lean heavily on her as she carries the one remaining carton in her right hand. The other, of course, has been left above. "Not far now... you can make it..." It's unsure whether she's reassuring you, or herself. "Just to the sled, that's it." Kesya returns to the smaller cave to the west, her light fades as she leaves the inner cave. Kesya has left. [Out through the caves they go, into the snowy night....] You push the heavy vines aside and step from the musty, close confines of the cave into the fresh outside air. Gravel Field Contents: Kesya Kesya's sled Obvious exits: Cave Entrance Tance stumbles along after you, lurching occasionally against you as he goes and making yet more crackles of resonance flow between you. Kesya helps you through the snowwy terrain, finally opening the hatch to help you into the sled. Her eyes glaze a bit at every surge of resonance flowing from you, lips pressing together. "C'mon Tance, we're gonna get you to a tub!" Kesya steps into the airsled "Twilight's Ambition." Kesya has left. Kesya's sled Contents: Kesya Carton 2 - Kesya Carton 4 - Tance Kesya sets the carton down with care. Tance mumbles foggily in agreement, "Tub... yeah... like a soak..." He's starting to shiver under his drenched shipsuit. Kesya helps you to the bunk, where not so long ago the two Singers were lying together. "See? Over here, we'll get you warm and splint that arm." She pulls out a knife, slitting the arm of your shipsuit so she can get a look at the injury. Tance stretches out stiffly on the bunk. It's old fabric his sleeve is made of, and is easily cut, making lots of little fibers along the tear as the blade goes. Kesya peers at the break, lips forming a grimace as she pulls out the triage kit. She quickly splints the arm, carefully wrapping the whole apparatus with gauze. She works fast, but her fingers are as gentle as though she were handling a newborn kitten. Tance keeps quiet, though his face is screwed up in pain, and perhaps embarrassment, too. Kesya spies the look on your face, and her eyes widen in worry. "That didn't hurt too much, did it? I tried to be careful..." Tance coughs out, "Not your fault. Mine. Did it again..." Kesya helps you get the upper part of your shipsuit off, wincing every time she has to move your arm. "Did... did what again? You just /fell/, that's all. We all do that!" Under the shipsuit Tance's undershirt is still dry, but he's still shivering. "Can't karkin' cut a claim without breakin' - hsss - somethin'..." Kesya gathers a few blankets, gently laying them over you as she removes your boots to make you more comfortable. "Hey," she says with a reproving smile, "You didn't break anything /last/ time, did you?" Her brows arch, as she leans over you. Tance frowns dazedly. "Didn't?" Kesya shakes her head, "Nope, you even saved /me/ that time. Remember?" She frowns at the crackle between your body and hers as she gets too close, and withdraws to secure the cartons. Presently though, she returns to tighten the blankets around you and to strap you into the bunk. "Remember that?" Tance slumps back along the pillows, wincing a bit, then blinking up again. "I.... I -- ow -- did?" Is it your imagination, or is the resonance even making his hair fluffier than usual? Kesya says "Yes... you did, Tance." Kesya's voice is soft, as are her eyes as she looks at you for one long moment. She doesn't know now if you remember why she might be aiming such a look in your direction, but that doesn't much matter right now -- though it eats at the back of her mind. She hurries to the sled controls, calling over her shoulder. "We'll get you back to a tub, and then you'll feel better, okay?" Kesya tightly straps the cartons to the insides of the sled. [Kesya gets the sled into motion, once she's sure the cartons -- and Tance -- are secured.] "'Kay...." His reply is soft and slurred, and he says nothing else... perhaps he's fallen asleep. [The sled hastens back across the Ranges to the JPF....] Kesya steers the sled expertly in towards the Hangar, her mind a turmultuous rush of questions and emotions. How much does Tance remember? Will be be the same after getting his resonance this high? Kesya brings the sled to a gentle landing. Kesya stops the sled gently, and springs out of her seat to rush to Tance's side. "Tance? Tance, you okay?" Tance jerks a little, restlessly. "Where'm I..." "Shhh... you're safe, in my sled. We're going to get you to the infirmary, okay?" The green-skinned Singer's soft voice carries to you, penetrating through the haze. "C'mon," she grunts, levering herself under your right shoulder, after removing the blankets and safety straps. "Lessgo!" *Zap* *crackle* *ping* flows the resonance off of him, but he mumbles, "Jade," as you haul him to his feet. Glassy-eyed, he stumbles along with you. Kesya has left. You step out from the cramped interior of the sled "Twilight's Ambition." Hangar Floor Contents: Tance, over by the wall. Kesya, standing by the sled rack. Supporting herself against the sled, she looks around, wide eyed. "Hey!" She calls to the sledtech on duty, waving one arm wildly to catch his attention. "Gimme a hand, quick!" The tech in question snaps his gaze up, then blinks. Kesya As'shoriah and... Tance Vokrim? He nods, though, hurrying over. The 'tech is still looking far too serene for Kesya's state of mind. "Hey, shake a leg, will ya?!," she snaps. Her eyes are worried, and the static coming off the singer leaning on her is almost thick enough to see. "He needs to get to the infirmary, quickly. Watch his left arm though.. it's broken. Give me a hand?" "You got it," replies the tech, after peering a moment at the dazed man Kesya is supporting. Tance is muttering something to himself, something unintelligible about falling, as the sledtech moves in to give help; when his resonance zaps the man, Tance looks up blankly. Kesya nods gratefully to the man, her low mutters a constant as she tries to reassure Tance and keep him in the here and now. With help from the sledtech, she manages to get Tance off the Hangar floor. Kesya ducks into the ready room, escaping from the swirling wind. Kesya has left. [Kesya and the sledtech hasten Tance out of the Hangar as fast as they can manage, Kesya worried about Tance's broken arm and resonance, and the tech just trying to hang onto the man with the amount of static he's putting off. As they reach the lifts, Himiko emerges from it, and passes Tance without recognizing him, uttering a polite "'cuse me" as she passes. But Tance is too dazed to really note her at all, as the two ushering him get him down to Level 12....] You walk into the clinic of the infirmary. Infirmary(#403RAM) Contents: Kesya Dr. Bear Catering Unit Obvious exits: Private Door Long Term Care Short Term Care Lift Kesya staggers into the infirmary with Tance, helped by a hapless sledtech she recruited along the way. She helps the singer into a chair, then marches over to the desk and buzzes the button there repeatedly. Krellin walks softly from the lift area. Krellin has arrived. Krellin says "I'm coming, I'm coming. What do you want?" Tance sits slumped where Kesya and the hapless tech have deposited him, left arm cradled against his side, splinted. The tech is grimacing as he keeps the Singer upright, with all the resonance pouring off Tance Vokrim. Kesya breathes a sigh of relief as Krellin comes through the door, and she gestures to Tance, trying hard to keep her urgency under control. "It's him. We were cutting black, and I didn't notice how buzzy he was getting, until he could barely hold onto his cutter. He's almost able to /broadcast/, the way he is now. Broke his arm while he was trying to climb out of the claim." "Better dunk the man in a tank," pipes up the tech. His voice makes Tance look up, blearily, gaze jerking round till at last it finds the medic. Krellin nods calmly as he approaches Tance, "Okay. I'll set his arm and take him to soak." He doesn't mention that he plans on making Tance soak on Shankill. Kesya follows closely behind Krellin, watching every move he makes. Krellin asks as Tance's gaze falls upon him, "How are you feeling Tance?" Krellin pulls his scanner from the pouch hanging from his belt. Krellin slowly runs his medical scanner over Tance's body. You hear a slight hum and lights on the small, black gadget flicker. Two beeps sound, and a red light stabilizes, indicating a medical condition for Tance... Numerous bruises and abrasions are healing on Tance's face and arms, his cheeks looking like they're recovering from being rubbed with a scouring pad. From the way Tance is holding his arm, you can tell it is quite broken. Tance makes tiny little jerking motions as the sledtech hangs onto him, as though the surge of resonance through him was a current of live electricity. "Snowball fight," he tells Krellin slurrily. "Hadda snowball fight." Krellin slips the scanner back into the pouch as he listens. Krellin smirks, "Ah, I should have guessed. Perfect weather for it. Did it pack well?" He quickly cuts away Tance's sleeve and administers a painkiller. Kesya's worried expression breaks a little as Tance speaks, her hands fidgeting before her. She sits beside the zappy Singer, a little, hoarse laugh escaping her. "He got me right in the side of the head." Someone -- perhaps Kesya -- has already slit the older Singer's sleeve; it rips away easily as Krellin takes off the rest. The sound of Kesya's voice makes him jerk his head around to her, and he abruptly smiles giddily. "Snow." On Tance Vokrim's other side, the tech from the Hangar lingers, not sure whether he's needed here anymore. "Um... 'scuse me, I better get back..." Krellin chuckles softly, "And the more important question, who won?" He nods his thanks quickly at the tech. As the hangar tech hastens off, muttering something about Azaria having his head if he doesn't stay on duty, Tance -- still grinning foolishly at Kesya -- slurs, "Stuffed it down my suit." Kesya abruptly blushes at that question, her arms folded now across her chest as she watches you administer to the other Singer. "Er... not sure, actually." She grins at the dazed Tance, giving him a rakish wink. Krellin grimaces slightly as he takes a firm hold of Tance's arm to set the bone. He tries not to rush this part too much even though he'd like nothing more than to get away from the ressing singer. After he sets the bone he begins wrapping the arm in a bandage. He glances between the two of you, "Well, to me at least it appears you won Kesya. But I'm not an expecrt when it comes to snowball fights." Krellin sprays the bandage and it quickly begins to harden into a cast. "Snow," repeats Tance thickly, his words coming a little jerky as well, as though the resonance is crackling through the speech centers of his brain. "L... like snow." Krellin nods, "Yes, snow is lots of fun." He says the next as if he's just thought of it, "Hey, how do you like shuttles?" Kesya's breath catches at Tance's stuttering speech. "Krellin," she asks worriedly, "His resonance being this high... he won't be hurt by it once it lowers, will he?" "Shut... shuttles?" mumbles Tance, his brow furrowing. Kesya purses her lips, glancing from Tance to Krellin. "You're sending him to Shankill?" Krellin casts a reasuring glance at Kesya, "He'll be okay." He nods, "Yes, his res will get back to normal faster that way." "No," puts in Tance, sharply. "Can' go. Can't. I can' go." Krellin lifts an eyebrow, "Unless there's some reason I shouldn't?" Krellin asks Kesya, not too concerned with Tance's preferences. Kesya blinks at the Singer's strong objections, and she simply shrugs. "I don't see a reason why not. Especially if it'd make him better faster." She puts one hand on Tance's shoulder, herself so ressed now that the feeling of crystal along his skin is perhaps not so bad. "Why don't you want to go, Tance?" Krellin does wait for Tance's answer even though he doesn't expect it to be logical. "Wanna st. Stay. Wanna stay with you, Jade," Tance stammers out. "Can't go. Forget again. Don't wanna forget again. Don't wanna." Krellin mouths to Kesya, "Can you go with?" Kesya bites her lip, turning to Krellin. "I can, but... he wouldn't forget stuff just by leaving Ballybran, would he? I'll stay with him if that's what it takes." The young woman mutters softly, "Graidan's going to just kill me..." Krellin shakes his head, "No, leaving Bally has nothing to do with his memory." He glances back at Tance, "But try to convince him of that." As the medic and the younger Singer converse around him, Tance scowls vaguely to himself, shaking his head as though trying to clear it. He rubs the back of his right hand across his eyes, and his fingers quiver a little. Krellin looks at Tance, "How about if she comes with? It wouldn't be so bad if you had some company on the trip up there." Blinking rapidly, Tance jerks his brown gaze back round to Krellin. "I like. Like Jade." Krellin nods, "Would you go to Shankill if Jade were there?" Kesya smiles softly, weary blue gaze drifting towards Tance. Blink. Blinkblink. Blink. "Can't," Tance mumbles. "Can't. Can't go. No credits. Can't go." Krellin smiles, "I'm buying." Kesya forces herself to sit up, feeling stiff and hazy herself. She shakes her head, "Don't worry about credits, Tance. That black we brought in will set you up well, and I'll pay the trip to Shankill. I owe you for duoing with me, anyway." More blinks, and abruptly, Tance smiles sunnily to the medic. "Duoed. I duoed. Jade let me. Let me duo." Kesya sighs in frustration, her shoulders slumping. "Tance, will you /please/ come up to Shankill?!" Back to Kesya, Tance blinkblinkblinks guilelessly. "Okay Jade," he mumbles, voice a little higher than it should be. Kesya starts, shoulders straightening. "You will?" She looks to Krellin, mouth working before she finally figures out what to ask. "Is there anything else I need to know, to do, besides just get him up there and in a tub?" Krellin shakes his head, "No, that's it." Kesya stands, supporting herself on the back of the chair as she does so. "Okay Tance," she says softly, "Let's go to the shuttles, shall we?" Tance starts to get to his feet, and wobbles a bit as he goes. Kesya takes the other Singer's hand, blithely leading him towards the lifts. "Thanks Krellin," she calls back. Kesya heads toward the lift area. Kesya has left. Kesya leads you through the crowds in the lobby, making for the guild hall. "Little further Tance." [Kesya leads her companion on through the front rooms of the Guild headquarters on Shankill, back into the private sections for Guild members, through the Infirmary, and last into the radiant tub room....] You walk through the archway into the radiant tub alcove. Radiant Tub Room Contents: Kesya Maple Bath Chocolate Bath Butterscotch Bath Beige Bath Obvious exits: Dressing Room Infirmary Kesya turns the left tap on the tub and it begins filling with a warm, thick liquid. Tance staggers in after you, looking around blankly as he goes. The hot, flowing liquid finally fills the bath and the tap shuts off automatically. Kesya leads you into the empty room, bending to turn the taps on one of the baths. The tub begins to full with radiant fluid, and the young singer turns to cup your face worriedly in her hands. "Tance, how do you feel now?" *Zap*, right into your fingertips. Tance meets your gaze plaintively. "Where'm I at, Jade?" Kesya slides her arms around you in a quick, tight hug, then helps you out of your tattered clothes. "You're on Shankill, in the infirmary. We're putting you in a radiant bath, to help you bring your resonance down." Tance hisses a little, as you undress him, and mumbles, "Res. I'm ressed. Gotta soak." Kesya nods emphatically, her gentle hands helping you into the radiant tub. "Um hmm, and I'm going to stay here while you do. Okay?" A good deal of this man's frame appears crystal-scarred; there are square centimeters of his skin that are unmarred, but they are frequently far apart, making the rest of him look as weathered as his face. Unclad, he seems to broadcast resonance all the more strongly, as he clambers with your assistance into the tank. Chocolate Bath You are in a large, chocolate tank. It is deep and long; plenty of room for an adult to stretch out their legs. The top edges round gently outwards. The head of the tub sprouts an unusual number of taps and dials. The radiant liquid rests heavy against your skin, filling your pores. The fluid is pleasantly hot. You slide into the tub, forcing your sore muscles to move just a bit more. You slip the harness over your shoulders to prevent slipping beneath the fluid. Outside the bath, Kesya sighs softly, seeming more weary than she was willing to admit, more weary than perhaps she should be right now. Expression troubled and thoughtful, she settles in a chair to watch the soaking singer. Tance sinks into the hot radiant fluid, letting out a sigh as the resonance flowing off him is immediately dampened. Outside the bath, Kesya smiles softly at the other singer, her head resting on an upraised hand, elbow resting on the side of the tank. "Feel better?" You sink to your chin, the radiant fluid heavy against your skin. "Remember this," he mumbles. "Tired. Remember. Always tired..." Outside the bath, Kesya arches a brow, herself looking ready to drop at any moment as well. "What do you mean, always tired?" Tance mumbles, "Hurt... get hurt. Get ressed. Lots. Hafta soak. Medics say..." Warmth penetrates into your weary muscles as you float in the viscous liquid. Outside the bath, Kesya sighs again, merely watching the other Singer, protectively. It troubles her seeing him like this... he's too scattered, and she doesn't get to see the man she's seen so much of the past few weeks. The man who, many Guildmembers would say, was lost in the years Tance had been singing crystal. They were wrong, of course -- but still, Kesya's brow creases with worry. It still isn't easy seeing him reduced to monosyllables like this. "You.... You..." Tance frowns with effort, trying to get the words out. "You soak. You soak too?" Your stress melts away as the thick, warm liquid penetrates into your tired muscles. Outside the bath, Kesya blinks fuzzily, startled awake by Tance's words. She smiles warmly, leaning forward to ruffle the man's hair. "Maybe I should, hrm? That black got me pretty buzzy too." Standing, the woman trails a hand in the radiant fluid experimentally. Even Tance's hair seems resonance-soaked, short strands standing briefly up under your palm. He watches you foggedly, smiling a little, still occasionally blinking rapidly. Your mind drifts aimlessly as the stress of work becomes like a dream. Outside the bath, Kesya pauses just for a moment, then strips off her 'suit and climbs in beside you, slipping the harness over her head. Kesya eases slowly into the chocolate radiant bath. Kesya has arrived. Kesya slips the harness over her shoulders to prevent slipping beneath the fluid. Tance stirs a little, blinking; your presence in the tub rouses him just a bit. Was he expecting you to join him in this tank, or to use another? Kesya has no reason to use another tank, being this one was already full, and you're too rezzed to care much what she's wearing anyway. She doesn't notice your surprised look, her eyes closed as she soaks on her side of the tub. You feel relaxed and rejuvenated while you float in the tub. Tance settles back, then, blinking again. "Buzzin'... remember. This too... too much?" Then, he starts to try to sit up again, and suddenly cries, "Jade?" Kesya stirs slowly, her blue eyes opening with a mild frown. "Mrmm?" She stretches in the vicsous fluid, sea-green hair trailing in the stuff as she turns her head towards yours. "What's wrong, Tance?" "Did... did I cut... too much? Don't let me. Don't let me forget..." The weightless feeling of resting in the buoyant liquid is mind numbing. Kesya shakes her head, a rueful laugh escaping her lips. "No Tance... we didn't cut enough, even." The fluid sworls around as she moves her legs, turning to get a better look at you. "I'll try not to let you forget, Tance. Do you remember cutting the black?" His worried-child expression at odds with his weathered features, Tance turns his head round to you, pondering. Then he grins vaguely. "Black. We did black.... p... prisms." Kesya grins at you, wearily. "Close. We cut pyramids." You notice the fluid temperature is no longer quite as hot, but more a still pleasant lukewarm. Tance's face falls a little in disappointment. "Got it. Got it wrong?" The liquid is warm and soothing, like being wrapped in a soft blanket on a cool day. You feel something brush past your legs in the viscous fluid as Kesya slips off her harness, reaching to touch your shoulder. "No Tance," she says reassuringly. "We cut blacks. We just cut pyramids. We only managed to get off three cartons before we had to leave anyway." Her soft smile seems warm and comforting, even as she pats your arm. Tance relaxes a bit, smiling shyly now, responding to the comfort in your own. "I cut black," he murmurs, amazed. Kesya giggles softly, settling back against the smooth side of the tub. "It was an eventful day, I'll say that much." Her lilting voice sounds amused. Moving a limb in the thick, viscous fluid appears more like slow-motion. Slowly, ever so slowly, Tance seems to be regaining alertness -- but between the warmth of the radiant fluid, and his own probable exhaustion, it's not very fast that he does. He focuses on you, and says, slur in his voice lingering, "Like doing d. Duo. Like." Kesya chuckles softly to herself, slipping her harness back on. "Me too, Tance. It's been a long time since I've duo'd with someone." Her trill is heavy now, with weariness and resonance. Your mind wanders, your body now completely relaxed. Tance stares a little more at you, then tells you, all at once quite clearly, "You should sleep now." Kesya blinks, startled at the all-at-once coherent mothering. "Hey," she says amusedly, gently nudging your legs with her foot beneath the fluid, "I thought I was supposed to be taking care of /you/ tonight." "Don't..." Tance draws in a sigh, sinking back against his harness. "Don't remember bein'... taken care of." Perhaps the radiant fluid has dampened the resonance enough for it to loosen its grip on his brain, for his words are beginning to loosen and flow more easily -- but they're tired, too. "'Cept by.... medics." Somewhat cooling now, the fluid wavers in that line between warmth and coolness such that it is difficult to feel a sensation of it against your skin. "Well," the green-skinned woman beside you says blithely, "You're being taken care of now." She sinks a little further into the fluid, closing her eyes a bit as she smiles. "And I'm no medic." Tance watches you move back, his gaze tired, soft, tender. "Sleep. Sleep now." The liquid is now rapidly cooling. Kesya stiffles a yawn, one hand escaping the radient fluid to cover her mouth. "You're far too convincing," she mumbles, eyes closing. "Wake me if you need..." And here her voice drifts off, as she slumbers. Tance watches you drift off, still smiling a bit, till at last his eyes drift shut and, too, sleeps. [End log.]
