Log cast: Tyree, Ktai, Suntop, Eveshka, Rayek Log date: 8/29/1998 Log intro: A group of three from Lostholt have come to visit the Palace: Yun, Minx, and Suntop. They were greeted (and rather stiffly) by the airwalker. Three turns prior, Rayek remembers, he, Suntop, and a Wolfrider youth named Flashfire went hunting in the deserts near Sorrow's End. The hunt ended with Ktai's (who had been following in secret) accidental injury by Flashfire's arrow and Suntop's impulsive motion to keep Rayek from finding out. In consequence, the airwalker's pride was bruised and his confidence in his dear friend shattered. They parted on that note. Now that Suntop has returned Rayek's anger has been rekindled, though it is considerably muted. Unfortunately, it is still there. Whether or not their trust in each other will be mended remains to be seen. NOTE: This log is spliced with with point-of-views from both Rayek's and Tyree's perspectives. ------------ Floating a few feet off the ground, Tyree comes around one of the hall's corners, his arms extended outwards from him. He seems to like this. In floats Mom, obviously in search of her son who has just managed to escape her watchful eyes long enough to slip away from her grasp. Not that the spirits of the Palace wouldn't alert her if there were danger... but he's too precious. Tyree giggles, aware of Ktai following him. ** Can't catch me! ** he sends, picking up the pace a bit as he heads towards the door. The door leading out. She gives chase, nervous as to what might possibly be outside those doors. ** No... we do not go outside without me, Tyree. ** Tyree merely grins kiddishly, floating up another couple feet, having done enough floating to become more or less skilled enough to go where he wants to. ** Why? ** is his simple question. Her send is simple. ** What if Tsoran is out there? ** ** Tsoran? ** Tyree sinks in midair a couple feet, and darts back over to his mother. ** Don't like Tsoran. He's a nastybad! ** Some words stick, apparently. Ktai nods sagely at her son. ** Agreed. So don't go outside without myself or... ** She pauses, then fails to be able to send it. ** ...Rayek. ** Tyree comes to hover inches from Ktai's face, staring at her with those eyes of his. ** You mean Daddy. ** She falters, then smiles. ** Yes. ** Suntop comes down the stairs from above. Tyree's eyes scan left, then right, as he floats back just a bit from Ktai. ** Where is he, anyway? ** His arms stay out at his sides, as if for balance. Almost eye-to-eye with a floating child stands the old familiar figure of Ktai. Not noticing the others entrance, she replies to the child's send. ** I'd imagine he's back in the Mountain nursing his injured pride. ** Suntop descends the staircase from the upper chambers, pausing as he catches sight of others about. Tyree shakes his head in a nearly exaggerated fashion. ** Nono. Meant Rayek! ** He doesn't yet notice anyone else present. Ktai laughs softly at the child. ** You mean Daddy. He's most likely off hunting down dinner. ** Suntop pauses at the conversation but then remembers his manners, clearing his throat softly. ** I'm sorry, but I did not mean to interrupt... ** Ktai instinctively reaches out to Tyree with her hands and her magic then turns to see exactly who it is. Tyree grins lopsidedly at Ktai, nodding. At the new voice in sending, he blinks, turning so that his head is where his feet had been. He stares at Suntop, and tries to zip away from her, towards Suntop. ** Hello! ** he greets. Suntop takes one step back, more in surprise as a tiny elfling comes flying towards him. ** Shade, little one... ** he greets with a smile. A long slow blink of surprise is Ktai's first reaction, followed by a hushed send of : ** Suntop... ** Suntop tries to look over the hovering cub in front of him, smiling brightly as he recognizes the send. ** Ktai! ** Gem-blue eyes then look back to the cub, ** Is this your young one? ** ** Suntop? ** Little Tyree repeats the name, slowing to stop and hover before the elf possessing that name. ** Suntop. ** he sends again. ** I'm Tyree! ** he proclaims. Suntop smiles to the cub. ** A pleasure to meet you finally, Tyree. ** He says in all seriousness. She nods once, smiling faintly. Something about Ktai isn't... well... right. For some reason, Tyree grins hugely at Suntop, but turns quickly towards Ktai. ** Mother? ** he asks, seeming concerned. Ktai perks up slightly, tilting her head to her son. ** Yes, Tyree? ** Suntop looks over as well, too-old eyes watching the Glider carefully. Tyree floats over to his mother, and settles on two feet, staring up at her. ** Are you all right? ** he asks, openly. Ktai's smile is as disarming as it is settling and she looks to her son. ** I'm fine, Tyree. I just... haven't seen Suntop... for a very long time... ** A moment passes, then her onyx eyes meet the blue ones of the visitor. Suntop nods in agreement, but continues to watch Ktai, sensing something changed about her. ** More than three turns it seems... ** he comments. All that issues from Ktai now is a slow nod. ** Oh.. ** Tyree answers, still looking up at Ktai. He blinks his eyes at her, and turns towards Suntop again. ** I haven't seen him for a very long time, too. ** He's /never/ seen him, for that matter. Suntop outwardly chuckles at the young one, "I doubt you'd remember me, cubling...you weren't even out of your mother's womb last time I saw you..." Tyree places a finger to his chin and asks bluntly, ** Then how did you see me? ** He's fast for his age. Ktai watches quietly now. Something in Suntop's eyes flicker at a send, but he concentrates upon the cubling, answering his question with, "Sometimes things can be seen without using one's eyes." Tyree just looks stumped at that one. He ohs, and blinks again, sitting down at Ktai's feet. Suntop smiles down at the young elf as he puzzles over the given answer. Then he adds, "I did not mean to intrude...I can go elsewhere..." Ktai's send is quiet. ** No... stay. It is... good to see you. ** Suntop turns his smile to Ktai now, ** It is good to see you as well...Stars, it's good to see the Palace again! Even R- ** He cuts off his sending before he says something in front of the cub that he shouldn't. Instead he coughs. Ktai simply raises an eyebrow at that. Tyree thinks. R...R..Ra... ** Rayek? ** he questions, looking back at Suntop again. ** You mean Daddy? ** It is Suntop's turn to arch a brow. ** 'Daddy'? ** he echoes, looking more at Ktai than Tyree. Ktai simply smiles and offers a weak 'what can I say?' hand motion. Tyree nods emphatically to Suntop. For all he knows, Rayek could very well be his father. He's the only father the little one's known. Suntop bursts out laughing! ** Oh, wait until I tell Mother! She'll be so happy... ** Ktai blinks slowly. Tyree also winds up blinking at Suntop, glancing back up at Ktai with a confused expression. Suntop explains, ** That he has found a family to care for now... ** Ktai ahs quietly now. ** And Petalwing, too! ** Tyree chimes in randomly. Eveshka comes down the stairs from above. Suntop glance about almost warily...well, he hasn't heard the preserver sing yet... ** Is Petalwing here too then? ** He asks the young floater. Eveshka drifts in from above very much like a falling fragment of mothcloth, or some other sundry and light tidbit. Her open send is rather like a bell, far different in tone that it has been known to be lately. ** Moth- Oh. Excuse me. I didn't see we had visitors... ** She hasn't yet fully taken in who it is. Tyree nodnods at Suntop, breaking into a wiiiiiide grin. ** Aye! Petalwing's my bestest friend! ** He begins to float around aimlessly, looking for the preserver. It must be hiding from him.. Ktai glances up to see her daughter, quietly taking note of the now-middle child's mood. Suntop winces at the memory of the preserver's singing...and with his newly-heightened senses he can only imagine the shrillness of the sound. But he tries to mask that wince as he catches sight of Eveshka, ** Shade, Eveshka... ** Eveshka smiles faintly, then the smile takes the tinge of realization as she sees it's Suntop. ** Suntop... hello. ** Tyree wanders off a bit, though not out of sight of anyone. Still looking for Petalwing, it seems. Ktai manages to keep an eye on him, however. ** It has been a long time, Eveshka... ** The young Mystic sends, ** How have you been faring? ** Eveshka smiles sweetly. ** I have been as well as I can be. And you? ** Having no luck on one end of the hallway, Tyree comes floating back towards the others, waving furiously at them as he passes, moving down towards the other end of the hall, now. Suntop's smile turns almost sad for a moment, ** I have been the same...as well as I can be... ** Ktai follows slowly, at a 'safe' distance, so that Tyree doesn't feel... herded. Eveshka's send is both young and old at the same time. ** It is all anyone can ever be. ** Tyree seems to be aware of Ktai trailing behind him, and he stops, turning around to face her. ** I don't see Petalwing.. ** he explains. Ktai holds out her arms. ** It's probably bothering Rayek. ** Tyree floats over to Ktai and nestles in her arms. ** Like I bother it? ** He knows how he gets under Petalwing's skin, and he loves it. Ktai laughs softly. ** Exactly. ** Eveshka watches her mother and brother with a soft smile,, but says nothing. Suntop glances to the young half-Glider, "You can bother a preserver?" He asks this in almost awe... Tyree looks back towards Suntop and just grins. There's all the answer that's needed. Suntop begins to wonder if he should camp out with Yun and Minx... Eveshka sends openly ** He rarely bothers me... and he sings better than Petalwing. ** Suntop glances almost warily to Tyree, "That's a relief..." But there is no malice in his looks or his words. Ktai sends quietly. ** He's very good. ** Tyree looks at Suntop with an expression that seems to suggest he's got nothing to worry about. Petalwing's his project. Ktai hugs her son to her, a half-loving half-fiercely protective embrace. Suntop feels slightly uncomfortable...as if he just walked into another's family den. Perhaps he should go re-acquaint himself with the Palace, or see if perhaps he could send his spirit to talk with Savah. Although he has not been able to since...the last time he was here, perhaps merely being in the Palace would help... Eveshka notices Suntop's unease and drifts closer. Tyree lets himself get more or less smothered in a hug, and he yawns. Ktai looks to Tyree. ** Don't tell me you're tired! ** Tyree answers his mother quickly. ** All right, I won't! ** Ktai smirks softly. ** So why are you yawning, little one? ** Tyree yawns again, this time because he's thinking about it. ** Dunno. ** Ktai laughs lightly now. ** I think you're ready to sleep, hmm? ** Tyree just clutches tight to Ktai, giving neither a positive nor negative answer to the question. Ktai snuggles her son again, and then looks back to her obviously silent-sending daughter with a quirked brow. Tyree shuts his eyes, feeling safe with mother. Ktai cradles Tyree, moving closer to Eveshka now. Suntop fiddles with a broken lace on his vest, also quite silent. In a locksend to Ktai, Rayek sends out of the blue, bemusedly. ** Found it. ** Ktai locksends ** Hmm? ** to Rayek, Tyree remains peacefully quiet, behaving well for a fledgling his age. Eveshka fidgets slightly, reaching up to finger a strand or two of hair. Rayek locksends ** My cloak. It was beneath the stairwell.. odd place for it.. ** He muses on this, though trivial, then pauses as his thoughts unfog and focus. Brows furrowing, he sends curiously, ** Is something wrong? ** to Ktai. Suntop breathes a soft, "Aye..." in answer to a silent question. A bit of the wolfrider accent could be noticed in this one, perhaps from spending recent time with them, perhaps not... Ktai's focus shifts for a brief moment. Ktai locksends ** Suntop... is here. ** to Rayek. In a locksend to Ktai, Rayek stops, a sentence forming, but never making its way to you. He had almost forgotten about that, pushing it to the back of his mind in hopes that he wouldn't have to deal with it. A matter he had hoped would resolve quietly and without him being there. ** Yes. I know. ** Ktai locksends ** He seems... muted enough. I didn't know he knew Eveshka so well. ** to Rayek. Eveshka just offers the faintest of smiles to Suntop. Tyree hasn't fallen asleep yet. He's just resting. Ktai looks down to Tyree, musing. ** Perhaps I should settle him in... ** Suntop looks to the sleepy cubling, "Tired already?" As Ktai and Suntop wonder about his stamina, Tyree's head lifts, and he protests openly. ** Not tired! ** Eveshka tactfully hides her smile. Suntop laughs, "Of course not..." Ktai arches an eyebrow. ** So I see. ** Tyree squirms a bit against Ktai, as if he wants to get away and do a few circles around the hall, to prove he's got some energy left. In a locksend to Ktai, Rayek's response is harsh, needlessly so. ** Indeed? I wouldn't be surprised. He thinks himself the expert on what to do with the affairs of our family, doesn't he? ** Then Ktai winces slightly at something, the move (coupled with Tyree's squirms) allowing for him to escape. Ktai locksends ** ** to Rayek. In a locksend to Ktai, Rayek in turn, falls quiet as well, his sending darkened with thoughts that he keeps to himself. The pathways for sending between the two remains open for a time, at least from his side, but eventually the golden-eyed hunter closes that as well, after reply appears not forthcoming. Eveshka looks to her mother, violet eyes concerned, but she says nothing. For once, Tyree seems not to notice whatever's going on with his mother, too caught up in hovering again. He begins to drift towards one of the stairways. Eveshka turns slightly, looking after her brother when she sees that Ktai doesn't seem to be inclined to for the moment. Suntop would normally dart after the young one, perhaps for a tickle fight or some such nonsense, but he is not yet comfortable enough with, well, the child's parents... Ktai regathers herself, an unusual quiet settling over her as she misses any entrances by turning to watch Tyree. A pair of golden eyes look in through the doorway, then the brown-skinned, Glider-tall elf steps through it, pausing just inside. A slender hand rests lightly on its frame, the other at his side; Rayek gives no announcement of his arrival, instead observing the scene quietly for the timebeing. Tyree changes course, apparently looking for a certain Petalwing again, forgetting about his previous inability to find it. Then, he stops Rayek. There's a momentary pause, and then the fledgling zips over towards him ** Hi! ** Rayek? Ktai turns slowly, eyes and physique unreadable to any but those who know her well. But her gaze fixes on Tyree. Suntop ducks as the young one zips to the doorway. Spinning around to see who it is, he half-smiles a bit upon seeing the Airwalker. ** Shade, Rayek... ** Eveshka looks over her shoulder with a soft smile, then turns as if she's unaware of any tension in the air. ** Oh, hello father. I've started a new cloak, in case you can't find your old one... ** The hunter blinks, then offers a faint smile to the approaching floater that hints of more warmth felt than is shown. "Hello, Tyree," Rayek says, reaching a hand out towards him should the child come within his reach. His gaze shifts briefly to Ktai, meeting hers for a moment, then further to settle on Suntop. The other magic-user earns a polite, but silent nod, any greeting sacrificed for answering Eveshka. ** I found it, Eveshka. But.. thank you. ** He smiles a bit awkwardly at the term 'father.' In a locksend to Ktai, Rayek states plainly, but gently, ** You are upset with me. ** ** Did you go out and hunt, Daddy? ** Tyree wonders, using that 'D' word again. He hovers before Rayek, and extends his own hand towards the one Rayek offers. Eveshka sends quietly. ** Oh good. I know you liked that other one... ** Suntop sighs softly as this trip is turning out harder than he thought. He is obviously not the most comfortable in the current company, and debates leaving to find the others, but he did make a promise. Just as it seems he is about to say something, he sneezes...and then again...and again! Ktai locksends ** I... no, I am not. I refuse to dictate your life, my love. I cannot be angry for the choices you make in your life. ** to Rayek. Ktai looks to Rayek now, a quiet softness in her eyes. Rayek's long brown fingers curl about Tyree's small hand, able to take the child - his son? Hmf. his son's - hand completely into his, dwarfing it in his palm. He starts to answer, head slowly turning to shake his head in negative, but any reply is cut off by Suntop's sudden.. sneezing? He blinks and looks to the yellow-haired elf again, eyebrows lifting. Tyree just grins at the one who's become what amounts to his father, also turning to stare at Suntop's sneezing fit. He wonders, ** What's wrong? ** Eveshka simply floats a fragment of cloth over to Suntop. It doesn't occur that others might not use cloth bits to wipe thier faces... Suntop takes the offered cloth and wipes his nose, looking very apologetic, "I'm sorry..." he murmurs softly, not meaning to interrupt. Looking amused, but not unkindly so, Rayek looks away from the sinus-aflicted Suntop to the floater still bobbing before him. "No, I wasn't hunting," he tells him, though belatedly. "We have enough food in the stores for now.." ** Where were you, then? ** Tyree wonders. Apparently no question isn't worth asking. ** And have you seen Petalwing? Wanna play! ** Ktai almost instinctively steps near Tyree and Rayek. ** You were tired before, Tyree. ** Suntop moves back a few paces, introspective. So that he doesn't sneeze again, he silently works on sorting the four scents in the chamber right now... (Ktai senses..) Like his reply to Tyree, Rayek's lock-sending is delayed in coming, but it is there if noticed. You can feel his eyes upon you, studying your face intently, as you approach, his lips pursed. ** No, but.. is something the matter? ** Rayek's gaze shifts to Ktai, thoughtful, but otherwise unreadable. To Tyree, he answers, "I was looking for my cloak, little one.. I thought I'd lost it." As for Petalwing, that question goes unanswered in hopes that Tyree won't pursue the subject. Tyree's hand lowers from Rayek's, and he nods at his explanation. ** You got a nice cloak. ** he comments, not really making much sense. Petalwing does seem to be forgotten as the young one blinks at his mother. ** I wasn't tired.. ** Eveshka hides yet another smile. ** Then I'll go curl up in your furs, if you aren't using them, Tyree. I'm sure they're quite comfortable. ** Suntop locksends ** Have you spoken with Savah lately? <> ** to Rayek. Rayek locksends ** No.. I have not spoken to the Mother of Memory for some time. Not since Ktai and I departed from Sorrow's End. ** to Suntop. Suntop locksends ** I have not really spoken with her either...I hope everything is well. ** to Rayek. Suntop continues to stay out of the way and for the most part, silent...watching. Or is it observing? Ktai locksends ** I am... tired of all the upset... all the tension. Forgive me. ** to Rayek. Eveshka begins to float off towards where the hallway that leads to Tyree's In-Palace room is. Briefly, the Airwalker's eyes seek out the other mystic's, settling there. His head dips in a slight nod, expression unreadable, and he looks away, now to Ktai. His gaze warms some though his expression remains unchanged; he releases Tyree's hand and instead extends it to her. Naturally, Tyree darts off after Eveshka. ** Nono! Only I can sleep in them! ** Unless, of course, he were to snuggle with his sister to rest. Ktai nears Rayek, taking his hand, watching Tyree with mirth in her eyes. In a locksend to Ktai, Rayek seems rather amused, though it is a detached sort of amusement. ** There is nothing to apologize for, Eren. I understand.. I even agree, to some degree. ** Eveshka shakes her head with a bell-lke laugh. ** Oh no... you'll have to beat me to them! ** Suntop does not with to intrude, despite wishing to observe. As Eveshka and Tyree leave, so does the Sun-cub. Back to Rayek and Ktai he sends, ** A am glad you are happy. ** And he truly is. Eren soulsends ** ** to Rayek. Rayek offers Ktai a crooked smile, then looks to the siblings. His eyes blink slowly once, then the smile broadens, a chuckle escaping before he can suppress it. Before more can be heard, he stops abruptly and glances at Suntop. There is more surprise in his glance than hostility. Rayek sends awkwardly, ** I.. Thank you. ** Tyree shakeshakes his head back and forth, trying to beat Eveshka to his own furs. ** I will! ** Eveshka has a good head start... but she'll probably let him win... and curl up with him too. Suntop nods to Rayek as he heads back to the camp he is sharing with Yun and his niece, Minx. Eveshka has left. [Tyree chases Eveshka into..] Side Corridor Eveshka giggles, darting into Rayek's old chambers. Rayek's Chamber Tyree follows close behind Eveshka, gaining ground on her, but not quite fast enough to win on his own. Eveshka starts drifting towards Tyree's furs, but gets distracted by something shiny... Shiny? Despite having the chance to reach his furs first, Tyree slows down. ** Oooh? ** Just a bit of cloth that Eveshka left behind the last time she was here. But she goes to gather it back up. Tyree remembers what he came here for after that brief distraction, and he goes back to claiming his furs, settling down in them. "Ha!" he exclaims. Eveshka turns, making a face. ** No fair! I had to get this! ** She shakes the offending cloth. ** You didn't /have/ to! ** Tyree sends in truimph, rolling around in the soft furs. Eveshka hmfs, diving into the furs after. ** Well, I'm going to hug you! ** Tyree eeeks, trying to fend off Eveshka. That's short-lived. Eveshka hugs him close. ** Silly. Now that I'm here, I'm not leaving. ** There's not a whole lot Tyree can do now. He gives up readily, and hugs back. Eveshka giggles softly, curling around her brother. Tyree shuts his eyes, and after all that gliding, finally does fall asleep shortly. Eveshka follows soon after, but not before reflecting on how wonderful it is to have a brother... [Meanwhile, as the two siblings drift off to sleep, conversation still continues for a little while back in the Entry Hall..] Eveshka has left. Ktai senses "Rayek's fingers, curled over yours, tighten briefly and gently." Tyree has left. Ktai glances to Rayek softly. Suntop locksends ** I hope you find peace with them. ** to Rayek. Suntop steps through the doorway outside. Suntop approaches the huge stone structure. Suntop has left. Ktai looks to the closing doors for a moment before sending. ** He's afraid. ** He frowns thoughtfully, neither at Ktai nor Suntop. Rather than answer the lock-sends that whisper privately in his mind he looks away, after the two he seems to have adopted along the way. Ktai earns a nod, quiet and soft, and he looks to her after a moment. ** Of what? ** Ktai sends openly ** Disapproval. ** "What?" The desert elf's brows knit together. He suspects the answer to the question even as he asks it. "Whose?" Ktai sends poignantly. ** Yours. ** Now his eyebrows arch until they nearly meet his hairline, vanishing some beneath the thin curtain of individual strands of black that fall over his eyes unhindered. "Mine?" Surprise flits across his face, then is quickly pushed away by the shadows of doubt. "No. Why would he worry as to my disapproval or not? That doesn't make sense." Ktai locksends ** Because he loves you, Rayek. ** "I.." Wait a moment, timeout. Rayek's eyes widen to golden saucers. "...What?" Ktai tugs lightly at Rayek's hand, as if to lead him off to a darkened corner. ** He is your student in many ways, Rayek... and perhaps he might have been your child in other circumstances, but now you are more than father... you are friend. Differences of opinions cannot outweigh the years that you have shared in good times. And so he loves you. ** He moves after her dutifully as she pulls, too startled to attempt any protest. Rayek's brows furrow deeply, jaw slightly unhinged, but not by much. A hand lifts to touch his temple, looking as if he had been slapped more than once without warning. "Ktai, I.. do not think.. ah.." A sigh, faint and threadbare, escapes. ".. great sun .." Gently come her next words. ** Then think on it, beloved. Do you truly believe that he would have come back if he did not? But come now, we need rest for the day has been long and full of many surprises. No doubt tomorrow shall be the same. ** All Rayek can summon in reply is a quiet echo. ** Yes.. rest.. tomorrow.. ** A wry smile touches his lips, a spark of coherency in his eyes. ** ..is another day. I will.. yes, I will need to think on this. ** [end log]
