Young Mehlani has watched the commencing of the clutching along with many others, and has found herself pondering anew the question of what she'd like to do with her life. She'd decided some time ago that she hoped to eventually become a rider like her father... but she'd been reluctant to really share that hope with anyone, finding it fragile, as if the possibility would dissolve away if voiced. And throughout most of the last several months, the idea of her as a dragonrider has been shoved to the back of her mind, with all of the attention she's been receiving from her various suitors. Until now, at any rate.... ---------- Your location's current time: 16:22 on day 11, month 9, Turn 22, of the Tenth Pass. It is a autumn afternoon. Kassima nods. "That's where I was headed, too--" She breaks off as the tail end of her words are drowned out by Lysseth's imperious bugle to the young woman who just arrived. "Heya, 'Lani," she calls over, with a wince at her lifemate's sheer volume. "Sorry about that... Lyss seems t'think you have unfinished business with her of some kind?" Making her usual quiet way out of the lower caverns, her shoulder occupied today by the form of brown Munki -- who has curled his tail around her neck and who is currently dangling upside-down off the back of that shoulder -- Mehlani starts as she passes within earshot of the dragons... which is to say, she doesn't need to be all that close, for that bugle to flatten her. She halts and blinks, as Munki chittersqueals, fluttering his way into sitting up on his human's shoulder. "What?" Ceria walks here from the north. Ceria has arrived. Ceria wanders through the bowl humming softly. She waves as she passes through. Lysseth strides purposefully away from her rider's side and over to Mehlani, lowering her head to snort lightly at the girl. "She mentions," Kassi answers, one eyebrow raised, "something about the matter of a scritching. I'd likely comply, were I you; when Lyss gets an idea in her head, nay all the Flirk's klah in the world could drown it out." Dulath rumbles low in his throat as some other dragon attempts to take his personal scritcher away. Ceria grins at the apparent scritching conflict and heads toward the living cavern. C'vadan waves to Ceria. Lysseth casts a look over her shoulder that could best be described as smugly pleased. Were she capable of it, one may be sure that she would be sticking her tongue out at Dulath and chanting, "Nyah, nyah!" right now. Ceria walks beneath the lintel and disappears into the living cavern. Ceria has left. "Oh... yes, I gave her a bit of a scritching yesterday, her and Nraith..." _She remembers that?_ is rather easily read on Mehlani's features, as she lifts her gaze up to the dragon's whirling eyes. Munki squeaks and ducks his head around behind 'Lani's neck, while the girl murmurs bemusedly to Lysseth, "You'd like me to finish scritching you? I was going to go check on Tsornin and Nightsong..." C'vadan chuckles. "I think I'd better get this lout to his ledge," he says, mounting Dulath. C'vadan climbs up onto his lifemate's shoulders and gives Dulath an affectionate pat on the shoulders before checking his straps. C'vadan has left. Lysseth rumbles noncommitally. It could be a yes, and it could be a no. Whatever it is, she seems very insistant about it. "Sorry about that, Cav, Dulath!" Kassi calls up apologetically. "Didn't mean t'be driving you off. Clear skies t'you both, and all that sort of thing!" Dulath takes flight, using the thermals rising from the bowl to carry him aloft. Dulath has left. Above, Dulath rises up from the bowl. Above, Dulath flies towards the north end of the bowl. "Well... I can scritch you for a little while," Mehlani murmurs to the green, soothingly. Munki seems rather dubious about the concept, peering around 'Lani's head up at the big green-cousin. Since Kassima has already advised her to do this, the girl lifts a hand up and adds to the dragon, "Where should I start?" Lysseth nudges the outstretched hand with her muzzle, *whuffing* once just for emphasis's sake. "Shells and shards, but the wench gets more obstinate daily," Kassi observes. "You've m'apologies too, 'Lani... I think anywhere on her head would likely be fine. She's nay so picky as she sometimes seems." Humorously, she adds, "After all, she picked me, didn't she?" Mehlani smiles tentatively at the rider, and obligingly, starts scritching the soft green nose. Lysseth relaxes for a moment, her eyes whirling a soft blue as she receives the scritching due her. However, she oddly doesn't stay that way for long. With a lash of her tail, she lifts her head again to give Mehlani's shoulder an even more insistant nudge than before--enough to knock someone on their rump, if they weren't careful. This odd behavior inquires her rider to make the ever-so-colloquial inquiry, "Hey, Lyss, what bug crawled up your tailfork?" 'Lani does stagger, slight lass that she is, and her brown squeaks again in startlement, immediately jumping *between*. "Munki," Mehlani blurts breathlessly, then, trying to regain her balance -- which basically requires her to flail her hands out to the green wedge of head before her -- she calls to the rider, "Did... did I scritch her wrong? Is she mad at me?" Lysseth shakes her head sharply, though stills enough to allow 'Lani to hold onto her for support. The dragon's mildly impatient rumble bespeaks a frustration with some unknown obtuseness. Kassi, frowning in consideration, strides over to place a calming hand on her lifemate's shoulder. "Nay, I don't think so. If'n she were angered, believe me, you'd know it." The green's eyes are still a placid blue, but whirl faster now than a moment ago as she stares down at this auburn-haired slip of a girl. "Oh, nay, Lyss," Kassi exclaims as a suspicion dawns on her. "You wouldn't... but you would, wouldn't you?" R'val comes out of the short tunnel from the living cavern. R'val has arrived. R'val uses Vidarth's side straps to mount up agilely, settling onto the little blue's back and straightening. He pets his lifemate's head once as Vidarth rumbles excitedly, ready to fly. R'val has left. Vidarth takes flight, using the thermals rising from the bowl to carry him aloft. Vidarth has left. Above, Vidarth rises up from the bowl. Above, Vidarth flies towards the north end of the bowl. Trying to offer Lysseth the calming gesture of a few further scritches, Mehlani tentatively attends to the nearest stretch of hide she can reach, but also peers round at the green rider. Her brow is furrowed under her hat brim, and she doesn't need to actually ask anything for it to be evident that she's _scared_ to ask what might be going through the green dragon's mind. Above, Pleiath flies over towards the Star Stones. Kassima sighs and just covers her eyes with one hand. She seems more amused than anything else, though, as she mutters under her breath, "Lyss, couldn't you at least wait until we're actually *riding* Search...?" The green doesn't seem to agree. Nope, not at all. She snorts lightly at 'Lani's hat, a gesture at once impatient and possessive. Just look at what she's found! Chuckling, Kassi sets her hands on her hips and surveys Mehlani with a broad, pleased grin. "Eh, 'Lani," she remarks with deceptive casualness, "I don't suppose you've heard the stories of how Lyss tries to knock every prospective Candidate she finds on their rear ends, have you?" Above, From the Telgar Star Stones, Requa's pale green Ninnenth rears on hind legs and bugles a greeting to bronze Palineth and his rider, N'var of Igen Weyr. Above, From the Telgar Star Stones, Requa's pale green Ninnenth rears on hind legs and bugles a greeting to gold Irrylath and her rider, Katany of Igen Weyr. Above, Palineth glides down from above. Above, From the Telgar Star Stones, Requa's pale green Ninnenth rears on hind legs and bugles a greeting to bronze Asaleth and his rider, A'wyn of Igen Weyr. Above, Asaleth glides down from above. Gravely, the young girl considers this, then bobs her head, venturing, "K'star told me she knocked him flat..." She lifts one hand to steady her hat, but keeps the other busy with the task of scritching. It wouldn't _do_, after all, to upset the green. Asaleth backwings for a landing. Asaleth has arrived. A'wyn With the grace and agility of a feline, A'wyn makes his way down from Asaleth's taught shoulders down to Asa's forleg which guides him down to the ground. A'wyn has arrived. Palineth backwings for a landing. Palineth has arrived. Above, From the Telgar Star Stones, Requa's pale green Ninnenth rears on hind legs and bugles a greeting to gold Irianth and her rider, Faerysa of Igen Weyr. N'var climbs down from Palineth's back, giving his a loving pat as he sets his feet on the ground. N'var has arrived. Above, Pleiath leaps from the Star Stones to sail over the Bowl. A'wyn nods to Kassima, "Igen's Duties!" he walks into the living cavern quickly. A'wyn walks beneath the lintel and disappears into the living cavern. A'wyn has left. Above, From the Telgar Star Stones, Requa's pale green Ninnenth rears on hind legs and bugles a greeting to blue Ilmarith and his rider, R'vyl of Igen Weyr. Above, Pleiath warbles enthusiastically to the arriving Igen dragons. Above, Pleiath backs her dark green wings as she approaches the ledge she shares with Spineth. Standing there by Lysseth's head, apparently busily scritching the green, Mehlani starts visibly at the descent of the new arrivals. Above, From the Telgar Star Stones, Requa's pale green Ninnenth rears on hind legs and bugles a greeting to green Perith and her rider, Kyleri of Igen Weyr. Above, Perith bugles her identity loudly to the watchdragon as she pops out of *between*. Above, From the Telgar Star Stones, Requa's pale green Ninnenth rears on hind legs and bugles a greeting to blue Caliath and his rider, Bradamante of Fort Weyr. N'var walks beneath the lintel and disappears into the living cavern. N'var has left. Above, Perith glides down from above. Above, Irianth glides down from above. Kassima squints up at the sky, eyebrows both arching upwards. "An invasion," she remarks mildly. "Duties t'Igen and her queens, riders." That said, she stands straight up and clasps her hands together behind her back. "Mehlani of Telgar Weyr," she says, her bearing and voice both at their most formal, "green Lysseth of Telgar Weyr has found you suitable to Stand as a Candidate for gold Leilanth and bronze Prometh's clutch." Eyeing the green, she adds in an undertone, "Even if'n it's only been on the Sands for a day or so." Clearing her throat, she resumes the time-honored formula: "Do you consent to the offer of Search?" Above, Ilmarith glides down from above. Irianth backwings for a landing. Irianth has arrived. Faerysa runs a hand down Irianth's neck, expression softening for a private moment, before she slides to land on a foreleg, then hops to the ground. Faerysa has arrived. Perith backwings for a landing. Perith has arrived. Faerysa walks beneath the lintel and disappears into the living cavern. Faerysa has left. On Perith's back, Kyleri says "Everobydo down!" Above, Irrylath glides down from above. Mehlani starts again, whipping her gaze around to Kassima. Wait a minute-- "Wh... wait... Search? Me?" Irrylath backwings for a landing. Irrylath has arrived. From Irrylath, Katany undoes the straps binding herself to Irrylath. Katany has arrived. Kyleri slides down Perith's extended foreleg to the ground. Kyleri has arrived. Above, Caliath glides down from above. Ilmarith backwings for a landing. Ilmarith has arrived. Kyleri bounces to the ground, grinning broadly. Katany says "Having fun, Kyleri?" R'vyl slides down Ilmarith's side, using the straps to slow his descent. R'vyl has arrived. Caliath backwings for a landing. Caliath has arrived. Kyleri grins at Katany. "Yes! Are you?" Katany says "I am not sure yet, but it seems plausible." Kyleri smiles. "Good. I'm glad. You _should_ have fun." Katany says "So you keep telling me." Astride Caliath, Bradamante squeals happily "Oh! Kassima, my wonderful scary procurer of stoves, good to see you." Kassima does salute the arriving saluteables, but her attention isn't quite on them; it's on the girl standing beside her green. "Lyss always *has* had peculiar timing," she confides. "But that doesn't seem t'hurt her taste in Candidates at all. You're the only person I see out here who's being treated like a set of pells by m'dragon here; I think 'twould have t'be you she seeks." Indeed, Lyss rumbles a most insistant note. She's *not* going to let this one get away. Kyleri nods. "And am I not right? Just a little bit?" K'tyn comes down from Herath and Prometh's ledge. K'tyn has arrived. Katany says "Kiat, we are invading." R'vyl smiles as he dismounts Ilmarith, running a hand down the blue's smooth hide, then glances around, uncertain where to go. Katany says "Although rather haphazardly, I am afraid." Mehlani blinks. Between what Kassima just said to her and the veritable swarm of dragons and riders that have descended upon the Telgar Weyr Bowl, the girl in the hat does a rather splendid impression of Young Woman Who Has Just Been Smacked By a Boulder. She turns rather noticeably pink, her cheeks flaming, her gaze darting back and forth between the dragon and her rider. "I..." Kyleri nods. "Not with any...organization, certainly." Kyleri notices Mehlani, and Kassi, and grins. Katany says "If we were organised we'd be a very poor horde." Emlyn walks here from the north. Emlyn has arrived. Bradamante grabs a straps and swings down from Caliath's neckridges, barely touching an extended forleg for balance as she leaps for the ground. Once landed herself she turns and grins up at Caliath, patting him. Bradamante has arrived. K'tyn wanders out, blinking at the sudden arrivals. A bright grin crosses his face as Katany greets him. "Kat! What a lovely surprise! And what a nice invasion." He laughs, offfering duties, salutes and personal greetings all around. Katany says "Can we come inside and steal too much of your wine and be noisy for a bit?" Kassima snaps a sharp salute to the Weyrleader. "Sir!" she calls. "Come meet the first of Telgar's Candidates... that is, if'n you wish to accept, Mehlani?" Lyss gives 'Lani another light push with her muzzle by way of encouragement. Asaleth rumbles as he sees Lyss and makes himself comfortable. Katany blinks, going quiet as she (finally?) realises what the greenrider is up to. K'tyn waves an arm toward Telgar's Living Cavern. "My dear, I'd be heartbroken if you didn't. Please, Follow me?" "I..." Her blue eyes turned abruptly very full, very liquid, Mehlani opens her mouth and closes it again, and then manages to only bob her behatted head up and down, several times, by way of reply. Kyleri chuckles. "Congratulations, lass," she calls to Mehlani, then more quietly asks K'tyn, "Is it me or does that one look familiar?" R'vyl looks at you for a moment. K'tyn turns to grin at Mehlani and Kassima, as he waits for the others to enter the Living Cavern. "Aye, Kyleri," he says easily. "She's the look of her Da, F'hlan, Weyrleader at Benden." Kassima belatedly calls up to Bradamante then, "Duties t'Fort and her queens, too, stove-lady! I hope you'll forgive m'preoccupation; Lyss is just proving t'be a contrary beast again, taking Candidates almost a'fore 'tis even the time for 'em." With a wink, she turns back to 'Lani and grins a grin that makes her prior one seem wan by comparison. "Congratulations, then, Candidate! Would you like t'be shown to the barracks, or need you a few moments t'return from being nigh toppled by the lump here?" Katany gives K'tyn a warm smile. "Follow you? Of course." Kyleri nods, breaking into a smile. "And her brother, no doubt. Well. That's a good thing to see, and our arrival was well-timed." Katany walks beneath the lintel and disappears into the living cavern. Katany has left. Irianth looks at you for a moment. Laurene slides down Perith's extended foreleg to the ground. Laurene has arrived. Palineth takes flight, using the thermals rising from the bowl to carry him aloft. Palineth has left. Above, Palineth rises up from the bowl. Above, Palineth goes home. K'tyn walks beneath the lintel and disappears into the living cavern. K'tyn has left. Laurene walks beneath the lintel and disappears into the living cavern. Laurene has left. R'vyl walks beneath the lintel and disappears into the living cavern. R'vyl has left. Bradamante slaps Caliath affectionatly and reassures Kassima "At least she isn't GLOWING, I hate it when Calaith chases." It would seem that the young girl in the battered brown hat can't quite stand up on her own. Still with her hands pressed against Lysseth's green hide, Mehlani swallows, and then blurts to Kassi, "If... I... I didn't finish scritching her... I, um..." Bradamante walks beneath the lintel and disappears into the living cavern. Bradamante has left. Emlyn walks beneath the lintel and disappears into the living cavern. Emlyn has left. Kassima mock-shudders at the very thought. "'Twill be a time ere she's ready t'rise again, Faranth be thanked. I'm blessed indeed in having a lifemate who rises relatively seldom." She eyes the green in question, and just laughs quietly. "I think she'd be willing to let you go now that she got what she was *really* after. Silly beast." Lysseth's sharp rumble prompts her to amend, "Though she'd hardly *mind* if'n you wished to keep scritching!" Asaleth crooons once again and happily suns. Caliath croons to Lysseth despite his rider's past protestations and her dark hue, then curls up in a sun spot. Several fire lizards begin arriving out of *between*, perhaps drawn by Mehlani's current state, for they emerge just a few feet over her head. 'Lani's blue gaze darts from Lysseth to her rider to Asaleth -- that's... that's A'wyn's dragon, right? -- to the rest of the dragons and riders in the Bowl, and she barely seems to notice as little bronze Holl zooms down to claim her right shoulder, green Rianet her left, both of them crooning gently to her. "Barracks," the girl mumbles, though she hasn't taken her fingers off Lysseth's nose quite yet. Above, From the Telgar Star Stones, Requa's pale green Ninnenth rears on hind legs and bugles a greeting to brown Kheveth and his rider, N'ren, welcoming them home. Above, Asabeth flies over from the north end of the bowl. Asabeth backwings for a landing. Asabeth has arrived. Aladis slips down to Asabeth's foreclaw, and pats it affectionately as she drops to the ground. Aladis has arrived. Asaleth croons to the newly arrived green. Asaleth(#11814JVaeps$) The rich glow of amaretto tumbled over ice, frost glittering through to give the glinting sheen that indicates true bronze; the underside of his wings is a paler version of this, sweet almond shaded with streaks of dark amber along the veins. Harmonious in hue and tone, he's rather awkward in countenance; those wings are improbably fragile compared to the implicit strength of that lanky frame. The swirled length of his tail unbalances his first few steps, suprising him as it doubles over to tickle his fine-boned muzzle... but within moments his balance is found, and he sets cautiously off across the sands. As Asaleth's lifemate grows, so does Asaleth. He's 1 Turns, 11 months, and 8 days old with a length of 37 meters, and a wingspan of 61.67 meters. Asabeth warbles a greeting, settling down in the bowl. Aladis walks beneath the lintel and disappears into the living cavern. Aladis has left. Above, Kheveth glides down from above. Kheveth backwings for a landing. Kheveth has arrived. Lysseth spares a warble now that her work here is done for the various visiting dragons, reluctantly drawing her muzzle away from 'Lani. "Shall we, then? I suspect you know the way, but if'n nay, just follow me." N'ren slides quickly down the brown dragon's back to the ground, after hugging his shoulder lovingly. N'ren has arrived. As Mehlani's fair swirls down around her, chittering in curiosity and excitement at her, and as Holl and Rianet both nuzzle her cheeks, Mehlani nods mutely to Kassima. Her eyes have gone huge in her face, and it would seem that the lass can't quite regain control of her ability to speak. Ceria comes out of the short tunnel from the living cavern. Ceria has arrived. Ceria goes home. Ceria has left. The twelve dragons settle down around the bowl, with a slightly freaked out girl and a complacent boy riding the bronze. Kassima just grins, somewhat reminiscently--perhaps recalling back to the day eleven Turns ago when she stood in ths place. With a nod, she turns to meander her way into the LC. Kassima walks beneath the lintel and disappears into the living cavern. Kassima has left. Mehlani glances in wide-eyed shock around the bowl one last time, and then stumbles off in Kassima's wake, two fire lizards on her shoulders, the rest winging after her, anxious to see what's going on. A'wyn shrugs at Rysa, "I guess so," Bradamante is blissfully unaware of her fall from Emlyn's grace, at least her smiles seems to indicate so. N'ren walks in from the bowl. N'ren has arrived. Kyleri walks in from the bowl. Kyleri has arrived. "Aye, aye, and a humph t'you too," Kassima greets Pierron with unusual cheer. "Excuse me, pardon me... augh, you're nay really going t'drink *Water*, are you? Should I notify the nurseries? Oops! V'dan, how many times have I told you t'watch where you put your feet?" With these and many other such words, plus a few salutes, the Wingleader makes her way through the throng and towards the Lower Caverns. Sandar looks a bit surprised at A'wyn's less than enthusiastic greeting, but shrugs it off and instead waves cheerfully to the new arrivals. A roar from outside follows N'ren into the living caverns and Aladis looks over her shoulder, "Hush up, Asabeth!" The young woman who accompanies Aladis jumps slightly at the sound, though a hero-worshipping gaze lands on N'ren once he comes into view. Kassima walks towards the inner cavern. Kassima has left. Kyleri follows the others in, and grins. "Sandar!" Emlyn notes N'ren's entry. She's close enough to the tunnel from the bowl to be seen when she salutes the brownrider. "A successful fall, Sir?" Laurene pokes A'wyn in the side, "Hey. Be nice." She grins. N'ren comes striding in, pulling off his gloves, "Got you three, as I said, K'tyn." Four other riders follow him in, along with a whimpering girl and a complacent (or shocked) boy. "We Searched well." He glances back, and jokes with Aladis, "She doesn't want to let that one go, eh?" Sandar heys! "Kyleri!" He heads over to give her a hug and a redfruit-skin cookie. "How've you been?" Surrounded by a flurry of 'lizard wings, fluttering shapes of blue and green and brown, Mehlani creeps shyly into the cavern in Kassima's wake. Shock is still the predominant theme of her expression, but as she follows after the rider, it can be noted that a shine is beginning to kindle in her blue gaze, and a hesitant smile is peeking out at one end of her mouth. N'ren hms at Emlyn? "No, no. On Search. Has there been Fall and no one told me?" You walk towards the inner cavern. Inner Cavern(#1272RJL$) Contents: Kassima Obvious exits: Steam Baths INFirmary Candidate Barracks Corridor Weyrfolk Quarters Living Cavern Kassima whistles as she reaches the relative safety of the inner caverns. "What a crush out there, eh? Reminds me of when we went t'ride the nine with C'ron... your father was there, if'n I recall aright, and P'tran too. But that's getting off the subject." After a moment of thought, she approaches one of the curtained entrances and pulls the cloth aside. "Thought I remembered aright. Here're the barracks--and consider yourself blessed; you'll have nay lack of choice when it comes to cots." Mehlani comes hastening after Kassi, looking rather overwhelmed -- all those _strangers_, even if one of them _was_ A'wyn.... as far as 'Lani is concerned, the nanny-turned-bronze rider has been gone long enough that he is mostly unfamiliar to her, again. She smiles tremulously at the rider, and lifts a hand to rub Holl's head, murmuring, "I... I should get my things... yes? Out of the dormitory?" Kassima nods, leaning back against the stone of the wall. "Probably wise," she concurs. "Just bring what you really need... most of the Candidates will have nay more'n that, if'n I remember aught at all." Sandar walks in from the living caverns. Sandar has arrived. Sandar smiles in passing. "Hey there! We're gonna run out of wine at this rate." Mehlani bobs her head slowly to Kassima, dazed, still. She wanders off into the weyrfolk dorms, re-emerging after a moment or two with a small armful of folded clothing, a single book, and her pipes. Her hat still rides in place on her head; it would seem that this is all she deems of immediate importance in her possessions. As she comes back into view, she blinkblinks at Sandar and smiles at him awkwardly. Kassima waggles the fingers of her spare hand to Sandar, grinning. "Unsurprisingly! I'll have t'join in the draining of it in a bit, once the more important business is attended to." She gives 'Lani yet another grin--my, but Search seems to put her in a grinning mood--and steps aside, leaving the entranceway clear. Sandar heads back in with his arms full of wine, which he grabbed from the stores. Sandar walks through the large entrance to the Living Cavern. Sandar has left. 'Lani turns towards the Barracks door, and then pauses, glancing back to Kassima, her eyes still very full, limpid, almost vivid. "Will you... tell K'star?" she asks shyly. The smile that curves Kassi's mouth softens from its impishness, turning something more along the lines of warm... or perhaps sympathetic. She inclines her head once, almost gravely. "You have m'word on it. I should imagine that he'll be very pleased for you... if'n a bit jealous that Indyth didn't find you first." Mehlani ventures another, rather steadier smile at that. She glances round at her hovering, and agitated, fire lizards... then once more to the rider. "Thank you," she breathes, in a fervor not diminished by her voice's lack of volume. "Thank you..." And at last, she turns to slip into the Barracks. [End log.]
