Especially when one is a Candidate. Especially when one happens to be Mehlani, already worn thin by the various chores for which she is responsible in her position as Candidate... and especially when she and her fellow potential dragonriders are scheduled to be permitted onto the Sands tonight to try to make the unhatched dragonets aware of them all by touching the eggs... ---------- Your location's current time: 20:01 on day 16, month 1, Turn 23, of the Tenth Pass. It is a winter evening. You walk off towards the Galleries. Galleries(#382RJ$) Contents: Ellwiny Davidon Obvious exits: Bowl Sands From the hatching sands, Jayna almost doesn't hear Sandy's comment, then glances up and grins belatedly. "It's pretty busy now," she notes, looking around wryly. From the hatching sands, Neliea runs her hand along redfruit egg and makes her way over the purple, grape colored egg. Grimacing slightly, she tip toes across, very aware of the heat through the soles of her boots. From the hatching sands, Leilanth rumbles at her rider, who nods, "Good evening, candidates. I'm sure our good headwoman has warned you adequately about being careful?" From the hatching sands, Richenda murmurs, "Warned? By the blazes, threatened them." Ellwiny crosses her arms over the back of the seat in front of her, and makes a silent count. "Thirty-two," she comments, to no one in particular. "A decently sized clutch. And a handsome one, as well." Mehlani, looking rather snow-covered and out of breath, comes hastening into the cavern, glancing about with wide, anxious eyes and signs of strain about her expression. Her blue gaze sweeps the place, clearly looking for someone. Or multiple someones, perhaps. You look out and see..... Hatching Sands This is the immense cavern containing the hatching grounds of Telgar Weyr. It stretches for several hundred feet across, and even farther in length. To the north is the large mound of sands used by the queens for their clutches. Looking up along the high walls of the cavern, the ledges where dragons and their riders observe the hatchings are visible. Much of the eastern wall is dominated by the galleries. Row upon row of tiers are capable of seating hundreds of people. The sands contain the following: DRAGONS: Leilanth PLAYERS: Richenda Meli Arallia Jessalyn Jayna Jaynelle Jehrina Aurian Neliea Sandar OTHER: clutch Obvious exits: Path to Barracks Galleries From the hatching sands, Jayna straightens, lifting one foot after the other, to give them some relief, alternately. "Yes, ma'am," she says to Jehrina, then smiles at Richenda's comment. "We were warned." From the hatching sands, Arallia looks up at Jehrina and nods her head swiftly, before reaching out to slide her hand along another smooth egg. SHe straightens and nods again, "Yes, ma'am." From the hatching sands, Sandar nods to the Weyrwoman. "Yes, ma'am," he replies, shifting slightly on the sands. He heads over to a shiny blue egg and runs a finger along a white crested ridge, again peering at it as though trying to discern its charge. From the hatching sands, Jehrina grins at Richenda, "Very good. REmember that these are her children. Treat them as such. She's very touchy this clutch, so please be careful." From the hatching sands, Meli, in a circuit around the candidates not unlike a hovering vtol, pauses to give the weyrwoman a crisp salute when her arc carries her close enough. Sweat begins to dot her forehead and the bridge of her nose, but her expression is well schooled. From the hatching sands, Aurian steps back and peers another egg, but she ends up stepping closer as for relief from the heat makes her shift her feet repeatedly. She places both her hands on the red, green, grey, and brown mottled egg. From the hatching sands, Jaynelle looks up at the WeyrWoman as she talks. She quietly, and carefully, shuffles her feet back and fort in the hot sands. 'Lani swallows briefly as she sees the knot of people gathered down on the Sands; then, with clear trepidation, she heads down that way. You step down from the galleries onto the hatching sands. Hatching Sands Obvious exits: Path to Barracks Galleries Neliea smiles and looks over at Jehrina from the purple egg, and nods. "Yes ma'am, we were." Jayna drops a bit again, spreading her hands on the egg again, feeling its texture, and slowly moving her hands in widening circles. Sandar nods to Jehrina, backing up a bit at those words, moving over to a patch of eggs somewhat further away from the brooding Queen. Aurian moves across the sands again with that funny little hopping step, she examines another egg in her silence. Richenda alters her position, then, excusing herself from Jehrina, paces about much as Meli is to study the Candidates and ensure they're behaving. Looking rather out of breath, her clothing and coat streaked with snow, Mehlani comes hastening down the stairs from the Gallery to the very edge of the Sands. Once she arrives, she practically freezes, swallowing hard and fixing her anxious gaze on the other Candidates before she inches forward to join them. From the look of the girl, she's nervous at the very least. Jayna looks around. She cautiously moves to the egg swirling with dark reds, like wine, and leans to feel that one. Her eyebrows shoot up. "It feels different," she comments. "A bit smoother!" She smiles. Aurian waves Mehlani over from where she stands near an amber colorerd egg, she grins at the girl already her hands trailing over it. Arallia notices Lani and waves to her from her crouched position near an egg, one hand still on the egg infront of her in fact. Leilanth lifts her head to look over each of the candidates. They're near -her- eggs, after all. She rumbles softly. Jehrina stands near the senior queen, watching the group as well. Jessalyn shuffles back and forth on hot feet, making sure to stay in Leilanth's line of sight, even if she's a fair distance away. Running her fingers lightly across the egg's surface, she smiles delightedly. "It's warm, too." On hot sands. Go figure. Sandar wanders over to the egg Jayna is examining, then places his palm atop it, deep in thought for the moment. "It is," he whispers back after a pause. Jaynelle slowly moves to examine the klah colored egg, seemingly entranced by the small flakes of color along the shell. Neliea brushes back a few strands of hair from across her face, tucking it firmly behind her ear. Reaching out to touch the egg, she carefully looks at the unusual shaped egg, with shades of reddish purple spread over the smooth surface. Gently running her hands in random pattern she looks up and over at her fellow candidates and nods in agreement as well. Jayna nods, beaming at Sandy. "Is it smoother than the others you touched?" she asks. "Get accustomed to the feel of the sands and its heat, my lambs," Richenda admonishes gently. "You'll be out here in bare feet within a month or so." Mehlani bobs her head at Aurian and Arallia, lifting her hands to tug her gloves off, then nervously shoving her hat back on her head. She undoes her jacket, too, and nibbles at her lower lip a moment, before she edges towards Jehrina and Richenda and murmurs plaintively, "I-I'm sorry I'm late... they found me in the stables... told me to report here..." Jehrina nods, "It has to be. Hardens the eggs. Be glad of it, it'll keep you moving around on the sands, and less likely to get injured if a hatchling charges you." Jayna winces at the thought. "Why do they do that, ma'am? Make the Candidates go barefoot, I mean?" she asks, still stroking the egg. Sandar nods a bit to Jayna, and is about to talk, but Richenda's comment gives him cause to delve into thought again. He wanders amongst the eggs as though double checking their placement, his eyes twinkling with whatever he's imagining. Aurian leans a bit closer towards the eggs, she peers at the patterning silently. Her hands spread across the surface. She grins then winces as she lifts one foot then the other. Arallia glances over at Jayna and then curiously over at the WW, wanting to know that answer herself. She moves over toward her friend to peer curiously at the eggs near Jayna. "Tradition," Meli says clearly, perhaps a touch overloudly, then gives an inclination of her head to the headwoman and weyrwoman. "M'pardon." Jehrina smiles a bit, "Just what I said." She grins at Meli, "That too. Tradition, and the fact that it certainly keeps you on your toes, so to speak." Richenda adds, "And riders are sadistic." Neliea quickly shifts from foot to foot, while thinking about Richenda's comment as well. Lightly touching the egg, she walks around the egg, blinking at the intresting shading of the grape egg. Jayna can't help but chuckle at Richenda's comment. She thinks about it for a minute, though, and her smile fades. Maybe it's true? Aurian turns about to examine the klah dark egg next to her, she trails one finger over the flecks of color as if connecting one to the other. Jaynelle walks over near Neliea and starts examining the grape colored egg. She looks over at the other girl and quietly says "This is fun despite the heat. Just knowing there is a little life inside who will soon join this world" Mehlani, now looking rather at a loss once she's apologized for her delay, turns her haggard face round to the other Candidates... the eggs... Leilanth. The girl's eyes lift up to the queen, and if anything, Mehlani looks even more unsettled. Sandar goes over to examine the egg on its own in the rippling sand base, running a hand over the orange triangle marking its side, then crouches down to examine it face to face. "I've been wondering about this marking," he murmurs as he traces it with his finger. As Mehlani passes her, Richenda touches the girl's arm and murmurs, "You've seen these before, my dear. Go on out and touch the eggs...gently now. And mind you keep your fair off the sands." Jehrina glances over at Mehlani, "It's alright, you're here while she's not upset. That's the important thing." Neliea chuckles as she looks over at Jaynelle, nodding. "Fun and scary that we'll be out her barefoot," she replies as she tip toes over to the egg that looks like a seashore. Jayna turns to look at another egg...this one a brownish color. She smiles, and turning her hand over, strokes it with the softer back of her hand. "I can't believe it. They're hard, but so smooth," she says, wincing as she forgets to move her booted feet. Arallia dances a bit more on her feet and grins over at Jayna, before moving to another egg, the packtail looking egg. She traces the 'scales' and grins, looking over at Jayna, "SOme of them look like they'd be rough, don't they?" Mehlani's tired gaze flicks back to the Headwoman; the lass is noticeably unaccompanied by either her own fire lizards or the tagalongs that seem to be frequently in her vicinity. Mutely, she bobs her behatted head to Richenda, and once again to the Weyrwoman. Finally, starting to unconsciously mimic the restless steps of her compatriots, she creeps forward to join them, glancing down at the sand as she goes. Aurian moves a few steps over and finds herself in front of a wine-dark egg. She runs her palm over the various shifts in colors. Jaynelle looks up and nods in affirmation to Arallia's comment "I thought so too." She says as she continues to look at the grape egg. Jehrina looks back over the group. Leilanth shifts around a bit on the sands, though she doesn't move from her current position. Jayna smiles at Mehlani from her vantage across the sands, then turns her attention back to the eggs. At Leilanth's motion, though, she glances up at the gold warily. Meli mutters to Richenda, ""If... through their... bothers... they've... got... or... goin'... able t'stand... barefoot..."" Sandar plumps down on the sand, wincing a bit at the heat upon his butt, but he's checking out the markings at the very bottom of a greenish egg and has to sit to look under there. Aurian bites her bottom lip but keeps from shifting about too much. She kneels a little bit further down her hands still on the deep ruddy toned egg. Neliea makes her way over the the egg that has held her attention for the past few days. Looking at the greens and greys intertwinded in this egg, she tentatively runs a hand over the smooth, surface. Richenda cannot resist a grin to Meli and takes her arm. She mutters to Meli, "... so... hot out here, but... feel..." Mehlani stuffs her gloves into the pockets of the jacket she wears, and flicks Jayna a brief fleeting wisp of a smile. She then shifts her gaze slowly about the eggs, apparently only brave enough to visually study them, for the immediate moment. Jehrina leans over, peering at Sandar. Arallia grins over to Jaynelle and nods, "Like this one..it kind of looks rough. Almost like a fish.." She then looks over to the Queen and lowers her voice, "But a pretty fish, really." Meli nods back to Richenda, smiling a moment, before her expression is again sternish as she moves over to extract two candidates from the start of a shoving match to get closer to a particular egg. Jaynelle walks over to the citron orange egg and starts running her fingers along the golden highlights. She looks on all sides of the egg before looking up at Arallia and smiles as she looks over to the fish egg "Yes, it is rather interesting colors...and from here it does look really rough" Jehrina says "Sandar, what are you looking at down there?" Sandar is oblivious to the gaze; he's running a finger over a wavy crest on the shell. "It's like this part is darker here to catch more sun," he muses to himself. "And then this part is darker where it runs into the sand." You see a clutch of dragon eggs on the sands. You count them, and find there are 32 eggs, placed in various locations about the sands. You look over the sands and see a clutch of 32 eggs. 1) Juicy Redfruit Egg 2) Murky Gravy Egg 3) Rounder Citron Egg 4) Rare Roast Wherry Egg 5) Wherry Broth Egg 6) Benden Wine Egg 7) Spiderclaw Red Egg 8) Apricot Brandy Egg 9) Klah Brown Egg 10) Bubbly Pie Egg 11) Pastry Egg 12) Cress Egg 13) Yolk-smeared Egg 14) Decorated Firelizard Cookie Egg 15) Herdbeast Stew Egg 16) Klah Sweetener Egg 17) Cream Puff Egg 18) Cheese Wheel Egg 19) Golden Ale Egg 20) Baked Bread Brown Egg 21) Shiny Blue Egg 22) Stickybun Egg 23) Burnt Toast Egg 24) Packtail Egg 25) Grape Egg 26) Meatroll Egg 27) Peeled Tuber Egg 28) Fresh Greens Egg 29) Leftovers Egg 30) Cool Clouded Crescent Egg 31) Silent Swimming Swan Egg 32) Sorrowful Seashore Singing Egg Neliea turns around to look at Sandar ar what she thought was him before he sat on the sands. Turning to look back at the seashore egg, she walks completly around the egg, running her hand along the white of the apparent apex of the egg. She steps carefully about, moving towards a rather doughy egg. Aurian runs her hand over the very top slowly. Sorrowful Seashore Singing Egg The crash and roar of thundering waves and the pounding sea are recaptured in silent depiction across this egg's shell: waters of pale sea green and darker grey are whipped by never-ending turmoil across the smooth surface. White foam splashes wildly across the apex, deepening down to a sullen slate blue at the very nadir... which is, one might assume, the base of the disturbance. This is another egg that rests alone and away from its clutchmates; is that the reason that a feeling of loneliness pricks at your soul? Is it that which gives it the illusion of being forlorn, or something else? The song of the waters is sung in a sorrowful key, as though the egg might be the last remnant of an old, old way that is fading out of time for reasons we cannot fathom. Sandar jumps a bit, coming very close to knocking into the egg, at Jehrina's question. Close... but not quite, fortunately for him! "This egg, ma'am," he replies. "I never got to see this side of it from the Stands. It's different from this point of view." He stands up and brushes some sand from his butt, making sure it doesn't even come close to touching the egg. Jayna watches Sandy curiously, but stays standing. She smiles. "I'm not interested in lying down on the sands," she says. "I'll wait 'til Leilanth turns it over tomorrow, or the next day," she decides. Mehlani, at last, inches tentatively towards the pale sea green and grey egg sitting off by itself, apparently drawn to it. As she goes, she can be noted to fidget restlessly with the necklace dangling at her throat. K'tyn comes down from the galleries. K'tyn has arrived. Jehrina ahs, and nods. After a second, she grins. "Okay. I was just curious." She nod at Jayna, "Good thought. She turns them every day or so, so you'll probably be able to see that spot in the next few days." Sandar nods, smiling a bit at the Weyrwoman, then goes back to studying the back sides of the eggs. One of them he raises his brows at... "this one's almost a whole 'nother egg from the back." K'tyn gets a shy wave. "Evening, sir," he says quietly. K'tyn skips down the steps, a pair at a time. He stops at the bottom and moves to lean against the wall that supports the galleries above. "Heya, all," he murmurs, not wanting to distract from the Weyrwoman's comments. Jaynelle starts to follow the shape of the redfruit egg with her eyes as she approaches. She closely follows the maroon patters down to the sands and onthe far side of the egg. Meli gives a salute to the weyrleader, then follows it with a nod before going on with her endless meanderings. Jehrina nods to K'tyn. Leilanth rumbles at Prometh's rider as well. Arallia straightens and salutes the weyrleader as she moves off to another egg, walking a bit odd as the heat soaks through the soles of her boots. Neliea makes her way over to a egg that appears to be black in color, surrounded by shades of grey that overlap and extend over the egg. Looking up at K'tyn, she nods politely before looking back to the black egg. Jayna glances up from her spot near Sandy when he addresses the Weyrleader. "Oh, heya, sir," she says with a respectful smile and nod, and turns to eye the next egg. Richenda's gaze to K'tyn is lingering, and she smiles warmly to him. "Good evening, sir." Mehlani reaches with her free hand towards the seashore-hued egg she's approached, fingertips spread timidly towards it. Oh, aye, she's seen egs on Sands before, but never like _this_. Another brief wisp of a smile curls her mouth, warring with her overall weary look. At the greetings given to the Weyrleader, her head snaps up for a moment, and she peeks startledly in his direction. Aurian waves towards the Weyrleader, before stepping close to an egg that appears to have little bits of greenery stuck to it. She presses her hand to the the warmth of the egg. Sandar heads over to Jessie, pointing out a white and brown egg. "This one looks like it got a tan," he tells the girl with a grin. "It's all white where the light can't hit it, but then it's all brown on top where the light hits it most. And all blackened here where it got burned." Jehrina turns to look at K'tyn as Leilanth's head turns to rest her draconic gaze upon him as well. Jehrina tilts her head curiously, "Should it wait, K'tyn?" Jayna sighs and smiles as the swirling green egg catches her eye. She takes a handful of cautious steps, wiping her forehead absently without even realizing she's sweating. She crouches, and runs her fingers lightly across its surface. K'tyn smiles. "Oh, please, do continue," he says easily. "I just wanted to let you know, Jehrina, that..." He shrugs. "It can wait. But you might wish to go to your weyr at some point. Or even out to the bowl." His lips twitch with repressed humor. Richenda's eyebrows move toward each other in the beginnings of a frown. She gives Meli a cursory glance, as if to ask if she knows what's going on, then heads for K'tyn. Jaynelle moves to the wine colored egg that was nearby. She looks over to the nearest candidate with a grin "I think I'm going to go from this end" point " to this one. That way, I am sure to see each one and see what the off side of the eggs look like. Sandar is right, some of them are quite different" K'tyn rocks back and forth on his heels, like a little boy with a secret he can barely keep. Little snickers of laughter edge out of mouth as he strives for that innocent look. Running her hand along the surface of the egg that looks like the black of night, with clouds streaming across the surface, Neliea wipes her forehead with her other hand. Kneeling a bit, she looks at the intricate patterns of the egg, before standing and making her way over to another egg. Meli misses Richenda's glance, but does notice when the headwoman moves over to the weyrleader. Curiousity piqued, she nevertheless continues to maintain most of her attention on the candidates. And Leilanth. Aurian chuckles as she nears another egg, that is white with great yellow blotches, she presses her hands to it with a smile. Jehrina raises an eyebrow, then nods. "It'll wait until Leilanth is ready for them to leave." With that, sh apparently dismisses teh question from her mind, and goes walking about the candidates. Imuna walks about the eggs, actually remaining silent for once as she touches the eggs. Sandar runs a hand along the underside of the cream colored egg, then passes it carefully over the top, pulling it back a bit as it hits a particularly hot dark patch. Stealing furtive glances out from under her hat brim at the others, Aurian and a few other girls in particular, Mehlani crouches slowly by the seashore-colored egg, her fingertips still touching its shell lightly. Her weary face relaxes a little, as she slowly moves from contact with just her fingertips to contact with her entire palm. Arallia stays crouched near an egg, tracing the different colors and patterns with fingertips until she cannot stand the heat any longer. With a muffled ow, she moves on to another egg. K'tyn glances at Richenda, still quietly rocking on his toes. "Hello, there." Leilanth rumbles, lifting her head to peer at Aurian as she checks out the eggs. Jessalyn smiles absently, and belatedly at Sandar as she shifts from foot to foot, winding carefully through the eggs, pausing every now and again to brush her fingers lightly across the patterns of color. Finally, she creeps over to Richenda and asks a quiet question. Jaynelle looks over accross the sands, but can't really see much of the commotion around the sea egg because she is currently on the other side. She kneels down along the spider claw egg and traces the red coloring down to the sand with a grin. Slowly, she takes a deep breath, rubs the sweat from her brow, shifts position and goes back to looking at the bottom of the egg - what she can see of it. Neliea makes her way over to the egg that looks like a bundle of greens. Peering around the edges of the egg, she seems completly absorbed in the eggs, and yet still listening to everything around her. Sighing more at the heat, she brushes her hair away from her face as she inspects this egg's surface. Mehlani's eyes drop closed, and for a few long minutes, she remains crouched where she is, her palm against the egg. Then all at once she snaps her eyes open, shaking her head a little, rapidly. Jayna stands, and sighs. She turns full-circle, surveying all the eggs quietly. "I wonder what they'll all hatch?" she says softly, eyes bright. Richenda blinks, smiles indulgently at Jessalyn, and nods. "Go on, then." Jehrina glances up at Leilanth, then grins at Jayna, "That's the subject of more bets than I can count." Sandar heads over to stand in the shade of one of the eggs, examining the blue streaks that seem to run in rivulets down its side. Jessalyn smiles gratefully at Richenda, bows again to Leilanth and Jehrina, and heads off the sands as quickly as she can. Jessalyn walks over towards the galleries. Jessalyn has left. Aurian touches an orange-yellowy egg, her fingers trail over it chuckling at the way it seems a bit flat. Jaynelle sniffs at the egg she is examining. She looks around to see if anybody is laughing at her for this then shrugs as she peers just inches from the egg. Leilanth rumbles, ruffling her wings. Her head starts to shift back and forth over the candidates. Serena flies down from the galleries. Serena has arrived. Jayna grins at the thought of all those marks exchanging hands. She sighs again, and takes another glance. Reaching out, she uses just her fingertips to dust the swirling green egg. Serena chirps at all the people.. Sandar does laugh at Jaynelle's sniffing of the egg, then, a thought strikes him. That's not a bad idea. He leans over to give the egg a whiff. Leilanth rumbles angrily at the firelizard, her head whipping toward it. "Uh oh," Meli comments dryly. Mehlani glances nervously up at the great queen. Never mind that she's known this creature since she was three -- Leilanth is _still_ daunting. She pauses, then rises stiffly out of her crouch, going a little pale. Arallia stands near the cream puff egg and then crouches down, leaning closer to it to press an ear to the egg. Serena eeks and flaps away.. "Uh oh indeed, " Aurian looks relieved as she sees the fire lizard is a metallic. Serena flies over towards the galleries. Serena has left. Jehrina rolls her eyes. "Alright candidates. I definitely think it's time to move off the sands. that's likely to have her in a tizzy for days. Until she forgets it." Sandar nods to Jehrina, moving away from the eggs without a word spoken. Aurian places her palms on the flattened surface of the egg. She glances up at the Weyrwoman's words. Mehlani glances once at the one egg she'd touched, then bobs her head, just a trifle unsteadily, to the Weyrwoman. Her steps are a touch shaky, too, as she backs silently away from the eggs. Richenda begins herding Candidates, something she's been doing for a long time considering she is as gifted as a ovine herder's canine. "Come on, everyone, let's go...you herad the Weyrwoman. Off before Leilanth gets tetched." Jayna blinks at Leilanth, then at the abruptly departing firelizard. She nods and stands as Jehrina speaks, and brushes her hands together. "Certainly, Weyrwoman," she says, maneuvering toward the galleries with a cautious eye on Leilanth. Neliea glances at the firelizard here, she blinks and looks quickly at Leianth's rumble and back at the firelizard that just left. Looking over at Jehrina, she nods and steps away from the eggs, careful of the warm, hot sands. Meli begins shepherding the candidates near here back toward the entrance, murmuring softly to those who seem so absorbed as to miss the weyrwoman's words. Jayna walks over towards the galleries. Jayna has left. You walk up the stairway into the galleries. Spotting her belt and beltknife, she quickly twists the one around the outside of her tunic, making sure the other is hanging comfortably. She takes another look out over the eggs. Gracious, but it was hot down there. Mehlani frowns lightly to herself as she makes it up into the galleries, and is hit once more with the temperature shift. From the hatching sands, Richenda walks over towards the galleries. From the hatching sands, Richenda has left. Richenda walks over from the hatching sands. Richenda has arrived. Sandar picks up his fish and stuffs it back into his vest pocket. Arallia wanders up from the sands and follows after Jayna, grabbing her belt and beltknife also, "That was so exciting wasn't it?" She asks her friend. Richenda puffs out a breath, and, turning to Jehrina, says with great politeness, "Thank you, Weyrwoman." Jaynelle looks over to the Weyrwoman "yes, thanks for letting us look." Sandar nods, echoing Richenda's sentiment. "Thank you, ma'am." Jayna turns and straightens. Hearing Richenda, she flushes, her manners forgotten in the excitement. "Yes, thank you, ma'am," she says to Jehrina. Jehrina looks back over the sands, then over the group. "Yes. You'll be able to go back down again. Not for a day or two though, I think. She'll be upset over the firelizard for a bit. Richenda should be able to take you there, and so could the weyrlingmasters, or K'tyn, or the other weyrwomen. They know how to tell an overanxious queen." "Thank you ma'am, " Aurian smiles as she unties her jacket from about her waist. Neliea unties her jacket from around her waist, and smiles at Jehrina. "Thank you, ma'am." Mehlani scrubs the back of one dainty hand across her eyes, then blinks rapidly, and turns an abrupt shade of crimson. She might possibly have murmured a "thank-you" in there, but if she did, it has been overpowered by the voices of the other young people. "Since you've all behaved yourselves...have the rest of the evening off." Richenda collects her cloak and swings it about her shoulders, adding stiffly, "I'm going to find Rennick and a bottle of wine." Meli gives a slight bow to the headwoman, then salutes the weyrwoman before preparing to make her own exit. Jehrina smiles, "You've done very well. SHe was much calmer than I expected her to be." She looks over at K'tyn, "So, what's this .. whatever you have for us?" Jayna smiles. "Oh, thank you, ma'am," she says to Richenda, with obvious delight, and oblivious to the dozens of "thankyouma'ams" that have just been offered. Mehlani blinks again at Richenda's pronouncement, evidently deeply startled. Jaynelle smiles happily as Richenda gives them all the rest of the day off. Arallia nods to both Headwoman and Weyrwoman, "Thank you ma'am." She smiles over at Richenda and says again, "Thank you ma'am!" Neliea looks up as she holds her jacket, apparently surprised at the announcement and smiles. Sandar grins at Richenda, and opens his mouth to say something, but decides that he doesn't want to take the risk of saying something that'll make her take back her statement. Instead, he takes a seat, watching the eggs again, but this time knowing a lot more about them than just a few hours before. Richenda pauses near the exit, adding, "That does NOT mean that you all should take this as cause to be flitting about with too much wine in you. I'll see you all in the morning; we'll be needing to start working on robes." She nods to K'tyn and Jehrina, her smile softening, then out she goes. Richenda walks off towards the Central Bowl. Richenda has left. K'tyn snickers quietly as Richenda takes her leave. He clears his throat and turns to address Jehrina. "Oh, Just was feeling in a mood, I suppose. Was over the plains, Prometh and I were, and we saw the loveliest flowers. So... we picked them." He smiles, pleased with himself. "I put some in your weyr, Rina. And in Nim's weyr, and in Kindre and Merla's weyr. Oh, there's some in the bowl, too. And in the Living Cavern." Ptodek walks in from outside the room. Ptodek has arrived. Meli walks off towards the Central Bowl. Meli has left. Jehrina blinks, and then laughs, "You didn't?" Jayna sighs, and smiles, watching the eggs one last time. "Well, with a night off, I think I'm going to go somewhere and...and loaf!" she exclaims. Ptodek slips in among the other candidates, looking slightly out of breath. Mehlani just stands there as Richenda makes her exit. It's a strange color Mehlani's face has managed to turn; it's as if she can't quite decide whether to go pale or blush or turn slightly green. She finally seems to settle for shakily tugging her gloves back on, and to no one in particular she mumbles, "P-please excuse me..." And she abruptly darts out into the Bowl. She hasn't quite broken into a run, but she's doing a good job of fleeing at walking pace, as she heads southward. [End log.]
