"Making New Chosen" 2/10/1998 Log file from Winny Cast: Reesath, Winnowill, Elyana, Savith, Nywen, Lyrr Event: After Azeure's death, Winnowill appoints two new Chosen: Reesath and Savith. Winnowill narrows her eyes as she slips back to herself, taking in the occupants of her surroundings with a single mindbrush. With a dusty sounding rustle of feathers, Reesath drifts into the room like a dark cloud, heading directly toward the throne. Elyana sits in a shadowy corner, fallen asleep during some bout of wandering. The Lord nods faintly to Reesath, hazel eyes regarding Elyana. ** Well, ** the dry sounding send intrudes on the previous mental silence. ** I was just told that Azeure went and got himself killed by vermin. ** One of Elyana's gray-green eyes opens halfway at the send, comprehending the message only slightly. Winnowill smiles quite darkly, a twisted and almost evil smile. ** That was his ultimate failure. I told him that his desires would kill him. ** ** Baah. ** Reesath replies, one arm moving as if to push away something distasteful. ** Azeure was an idiot. ** he states bluntly. ** Self serving and loyal only to himself. He deserved what he received. However, it cannot go unpunished... The vermin must learn not to kill us, even if they did us a favor by killing a defect. ** Winnowill sends openly ** And what would you do? ** Elyana fully opens both eyes and lifts up her head from where it rested in her arms. ** Dead? ** she asks with uncomprehension. Death of the wolf-elves she can understand, but of her own people... That is different. ** Killing them would not do. ** Reesath replies. ** Elves do not kill elves, however tainted those elves may be. ** Reesath scowls, but his eyes light darkly. ** An object .. lesson .. is in order, I think. We have a few of their pack-mates, do we not? ** Elyana blinks, hopelessly confused by this conversation. Winnowill raises her hand. ** Still yourself, Reesath. They have undone themselves in killing Azeure. WolfFlame was particularly fond of him. The two who remain in the Mountain shall remain unharmed for now. ** You locksend ** Yes, child. Azeure's self has flown to the stars and it will be up to us to bring the Mountain back to him in those lights in the evening sky. ** to Elyana. One bushy gray eyebrow raises in the question that will prudently remain unspoken. ** As my Lord wishes, of course. ** You locksend ** For you... I shall give a method to vent that energy. You are Chosen now, Reesath. Tomorrow, come for your talon-whip and uniform. ** to Reesath. You sense in a locksend, Elyana still seems confused. ** Why did he die? ** You locksend ** The outsiders chose to kill him. ** to Elyana. Elyana blinks once more at a send. Wrinkled lids decend to cover gray eyes for a moment in a long blink. In a moment they snap open and Reesath turns to Elyana. ** Child. What would you have us do? The vermin have killed a Chosen. What should our retribution be? ** Savith seems to fade into view from the depths of the cavern. Savith has arrived. Elyana lowers her eyes to scan the floors. ** I... ** Winnowill turns to glance at the arrival. ** Ah. Savith. I as just about to send for you. What word have you? ** ** Hmm child? ** the old elf sends smoothly. ** What do they deserve? ** Elyana thinks long and hard as her brain will permit...She comes up with a verdict at long last. Carefully, as her opinion seems to be one of the less popular, she sends, ** We should kill one of them, I think.. ** Savith floats silently into the hall, truely just on his way through he pauses though and bows formally to Winnowill, ** I have just returned from hunting my Lord ** Winnowill arches a brow. ** Acting on your own initiative with the lack of Chosen, Savith? ** Savith smiles thinly and nods, ** Indeed my Lord, someone must feed us while those who were Chosen scramble to regain some respect in your eyes ** ** Elves do NOT kill elves, child. ** Reesath says firmly. ** No matter what they do, we are Gliders. We will NOT stoop to the level of vermin. Besides, ** he continues softly. ** Death would release them. We wouldn't want that, would we? ** Elyana winces slightly. ** Oww.. I just said what I thought.. ** Elyana pouts, putting her head back into her arms. Savith turns his eyes from Reesath to the child and back again, wondering just what he has stumbled into You locksend ** Very well. That which you emulate, you shall have. Tomorrow, to my rooms and I shall give you the 'whip and uniform of Chosen. ** to Savith. Savith's eyes widen slightly, so too does a smile on his lips ever so slightly, he bows even more formally to Winnowill in turn at a send A faint but definite send floats on the air. ** Some scramble to regain respect while others try to impress those in power. ** Savith locksends ** You honor me My lord, I shall prove myself worthy of this. I am your servant in all ways. ** You locksend ** See that you do not dissapoint me. ** to Savith. Savith locksends ** Never my Lord, I live only to serve. ** Winnowill watches the three who have collected in the Throne Room, eyes narrowed in what might be annoyance. ** Chin up, child. ** Reesath sends in a softer tone. ** You have the pure blood of high ones coursing through your veins. Be strong and honor that. ** Elyana raises her head slightly, but not much. ** Better ** Reesath responds dryly and turns to Winnowill. ** Something vexes you, Lord? ** Winnowill looks to Reesath. ** Nothing worth concern, Reesath. ** Nywen seems to fade into view from the depths of the cavern. Nywen has arrived. ** As my Lord wishes. ** Reesath replies again. Elyana remains silent, still pouting slightly, almost indetectably. Elyana does not even notice her mother's arrival into the hall. Nywen glides across the hall, delicate form floating by... though she pauses when she sees her daughter. Her head tilts to one side, blueblack hair slipping in a glossy wave over one shoulder. She approaches more closely ... cautiously. She bows to Winnowill and moves to her daughter's side resting a hand upon the youngling's shoulder and giving it a gentle squeeze. Winnowill nods in return to Nywen, sending nothing at all. Elyana looks up, only now noticing Nywen's presence. ** Hello Mother. ** she sends, softly. Nywen, not expecting their Lord to pay much attention to her at all, merely turns to regard her daughter, smoothing a lock of fiery hair behind the youngling's delicate ear with a tender touch. A soft smile graces her full lips. ** Hello, dearling. ** Savith disappears down the hall momentarily, dropping off his catches in the Kitchen before returning again Elyana finger-combs her unruly hair so that she can see the rest of the elves in the hall more clearly. Nywen squeezes her daughter's shoulder gently and stands at her side regarding the proceedings with thinly veiled interest. Winnowill sends openly ** Nywen... two of the newest Chosen: Reesath and Savith. ** Reesath looks at Winnowill and then at Nywen, expression unreadable. Nywen nods politely to each of the newly introduced Chosen. ** Congratulations to you both. ** she sends to them softly. There is no envy whatsoever in that sending. Savith nods faintly to the send a faint smile on his lips. Reesath does not respond. Nywen only looks from one Chosen to another, then up at their Lord. It's obvious she knows there's a discussion going on here. It's just as obvious that she doesn't expect to be brought in on it. She turns back to her daughter with a soft sigh, and touches the fledgling's cheek. Elyana touches her mother's hand softly. Winnowill is silent, rather stormy in countenance. Nywen's expression is one of quiet meloncholy, her eyes, when seen from a certain angle, can be seen to glisten darkly in the odd light of the chamber. But she manages a tremelous smile as she watches her daughter. Reesath locksends ** It would seem ... that sitting there with that expression on your face would do nothing but earn you indigestion. Lord. If there is something that can be done to fix what bothers you, then I am quite willing to fix it. ** Elyana sighs quietly. You locksend ** One must keep annoyed appearances, Reesath. It is better than if I looked pleased. ** to Reesath. Reesath chuckles to himself. Lyrr approaches from the west. Lyrr has arrived. Reesath locksends ** Indeed, Lord. It is a shame however to see your face marred by that expression. With your permission, I shall return anon. ** You locksend ** Would you rather I showed my pleasure at Azeure's death? ** to Reesath. Nywen nods to Elyana. Nywen turns to regard Lyrr as she approaches and gives her a slight smile and a nod of her head. Reesath locksends ** *blandly* I would rather not see my Lord unhappy. ** Lyrr wanders into the hall, his eyes glancing around the room. People. Lots of people. Nywen is standing beside her daughter, her hand gently resting upon the youngling's shoulder. Savith stands silently away from the others, arms crossed before him as he surveys the arrivals. Winnowill reclines in her Throne, a dark yet now somehow triumphant expression on her face as she regards Reesath now. You locksend ** And yet, elves do not kill elves. Such a quaint saying, brought to us by those Outsiders. Those who are deserving have always been killed in the Cage, Reesath. ** to Reesath. Reesath locksends ** My Lords wishes will prevail of course. However, I would not free those elves to an eternity of peace. There is much more that can be done. ** You locksend ** He will find little peace. Where he has gone is where his daughter and mother are. They will not let him rest so easily. ** to Reesath. Reesath locksends ** Indeed. What of the vermin, however? Larias tarries... ** Nywen softly sighs and squeezes her daughter's shoulder one more time before beginning to slowly back out of the chamber. You locksend ** She will be... dealt with. ** to Reesath. Winnowill watches Nywen silently. Nywen's smile is slight as she continues to back out of the room but her eyes are upon her daughter. Lyrr's eyes follow Nywen, as she backs out, then back to Herself, and Elyana. Nywen waits for Elyana to catch up to her, takes the youngling's hand tenderly in her own and walks from the chamber, her gait more graceful than anyone who walks as little as she has any right to be. Elyana walks quickly and takes her mother's hand. Nywen heads south and disappears into the shadows at the other end of the immense hall. Nywen has left. Elyana heads south and disappears into the shadows at the other end of the immense hall. Elyana has left. Savith watches the two leave then shrugs slightly. Lyrr watches the two ladies leave, then glances about the room. Hm. Boring. [Winnowill quietly sits watching, once again returning her attentions to tracking those within the Mountain to ensure that All is Well in her world. End log.]
