Log Date: 9/9/96 Log Cast: Uruk, Dart, Tari, Trouble Log Intro: Dart of Sorrow's End, once of Lostholt, has caught up with the surly young maiden Trouble, in his impulsive effort to find her once he discovered she had left Lostholt territory on her own quest for an adult's name. Trouble has grudgingly allowed Dart to stay with her, but it hasn't exactly been a peacable companionship. Nor has it been an unobserved one, due to its proximity to the village of the Olbar tribe of humans.... ---------- Uruk stops as he spots something in the distance, squinting. "" Dart is standing almost in plain sight, his mop of reddish-brown hair visible from a distance but his ear points are not. Tari Past the the first bloom of youth, but not yet settled into middle age, Tari is still a very attractive woman. She stands just a hair taller than five feet, and looks to be very fit and healthy. The lines around her brown eyes reflect someone who has spent a great deal of time laughing. Her long brown hair is pulled back with a leather thong. She wears a simple leather dress, belted at the waist, and from the the stains on it she spends a lot of time kneeling in dirt, mud, and clay. Carrying: Shining pebble a dull knife Uruk Uruk stands before you, a large, intimidating man. At 6'7, Uruk is a formidable man with large, powerful muscles and an overall physically imposing form: square jaw and square shoulders, a bushy black beard, peppered with grey now, covers his face and jaw and makes his smile, when it shows, a brief flash of white through his dark beard. His eyes, small and dark, g gleam fiercely when he squints through lowered, bushy brows. He carries a spear with him at most times. Dart blinks, ** Did you say something? ** Tari blinks, "" Uruk nods, squinting, "" Tari says "" Uruk nods abruptly. "" Dart sends openly ** Trouble, speak up if you're going to talk. ** Tari shrugs, "" Uruk nods, "" With that, he walks steadily, tall and proud, towards the elf. Dart glances around and finally looks behind him as he hears the humans' approach. He spins around and backs up a few steps, "Trouble..." Tari has to jog a bit to keep up, Uruk has longer legs than her, but she tries not to lag behind. Sheltered in the copse of trees in which she's been denning for moons now, Trouble sends back reservedly, ** I... no, I didn't say anything... ** She cuts off, then, at the sudden sound of Dart's voice aloud. Uruk raises his arms before him. He has a spear in one arm, a rather large one to boot, however it's held at an angle that shows he neither intends to throw it, nor stab. "" Tari puts her hands on her hips. She only has a knife in her belt which doesn't look sharp enough to cut anything. Up in her tree, Trouble stares, freezing in startlement for a moment. Her hand moves without thinking to her bow, but she doesn't shoot. Yet. Dart simply stands there more surprised than confused at the humans words, "" he stumbles over human words he hasn't spoken in Turns. "" Uruk shakes his head, "" Trouble gapes. Dart knows human words? That more than anything stays her hand -- but a primal fear in her gut keeps her up in the tree, too, hand clenched on her bow, shaking slightly. Dart starts to look puzzled, trying hard to call up the words he was taught. "Trouble don't you know any human words?" Tari lets Uruk do the talking for once and looks the elf up and down. Uruk blinks at Dart as he speaks, then looks curiously at Tari, "" Trouble sends openly ** Curse it, Dart, what are you doing?! ** Tari shakes her head, "" Trouble remains up on her leafy perch, trembling now, utterly flabbergasted. Dart fiddles with his arrowhead pendant, "" Uruk cocks his head, "" He scans the treetops. Tari blinks, "" Dart sends openly ** What? No one ever tell you about the Hoan G'Tay Sho? Cutter mentioned Olbar the Mountain Tall when he told me about Nonna and Adar. ** Dart scratches his head trying to remember something, "" Uruk regards Dart thoughtfully, "" Dart umms, and holds up one finger indicating that there's just one elf hiding. Uruk nods, turning to Tari, "" Trouble flicks her wide green gaze from her companion to the tall ones. They're not here to fight? But... ** Dart... ** Tari hmms, "" Uruk says "" Dart blinks a few times, "" Uruk nods, " "He points, "" Dart sends openly ** You sure you don't know any of their words? ** Dart pinches his nose closed, "" Uruk smiles dryly, "" Trouble sends openly ** No. None. ** Up in the tree, a slim white hand draws sheltering leaves aside, giving a glimpse of green eyes narrowed in speculation. Tari chuckles, "" Uruk sticks out his tongue undignifiedly at Tari. Tari swats Uruk playfully. Uruk pokes Tari in the ribs and grins. Dart glances between the two humans, "" He nods to himself thinking he got his point across, he hopes. Uruk chuckles, " "He slants a glance upwards at the trees, meeting green eyes for a moment. He smiles hoodedly, and gives no indication that he spotted the elusive 'friend'. Trouble creeps out along the branch on which she's paused. It's not a big tree to begin with, wide and open as this valley is, and the branch shifts ever so slightly under its occupant's weight. Tari stares at the elf in the tree curiously. Dart glances up at the tree where his friend hides before turning back to the humans, "" Uruk looks up at Trouble openly. "< I thought your kind was /good/ at hiding.> " He grins wryly. Dart looks puzzled for a moment before passing along the translation, "He said something about being good at hiding.. I think." Trouble, as she finally allows herself to be viewed, keeps her hand on her weapon, ready to nock an arrow at the first sign of need. At the big human's regard her mouth tightens a little, but she doesn't look away; then, at Dart's relaying, she smirks. ** I'd still be hiding if you hadn't been standing out here like a ravvit showing its white tail off to the nearest wolf... ** Her tone is acerbic but more with worry than true sarcasm. Uruk crosses his thick arms over his chest, "" Dart smirks up at Trouble, ** At least I'm not hiding like a scared treewee. <> ** Dart sends openly ** He said you can come down.. I don't know what the rest was. ** The elf maiden considers that string of nonsense directed, at least as far as she can tell, up to her. Then she scowls thunderously at Dart, and that, more than the human's words, makes her sling the bow -- no good against a target standing so close anyway -- onto her shoulder. She clambers down then, lithely, to stand in full view, a raggedly clad urchin of an elf huntress. Dart hrms, "" Uruk looks down from his towering height on the two. He frowns faintly, what must look like a hideous scowl to small elves, "" Dart glances up at the chief, looking puzzled. Dart sends openly ** I've got to learn more tall one words. ** Uruk sighs gustily. "" Trouble looks warily from Tall One to Dart and back again, brow wrinkled at an exchange she never thought she'd witness and live to tell about it. Dart puxxles over the question, "" Uruk nods, "" Dart stammers, "" Struggles to find the right place for where he intends to go next. Uruk regards Dart quizically. Dart stammers, "" He tosses his hands in the air to emphasize the size of the Father tree, someplace easier to explain on a limited vocabulary. Dart sends openly ** I think he wants to know where we're going. I think. I don't know the right words for what I want to say. <> ** Uruk blinks at Dart and nods. Slowly. "" Dart nods, "" Uruk smiles dryly, "" He nods gruffly and turns, walking off. Dart relays what Uruk says to Trouble in his own language. "He said to stay away from the human holt, and they won't hurt us if we don't hurt them. I told him that we would stay away as long as they stay away from our holt." Trouble smirks a bit. ** I've got no problems with staying away from them, ** she sends, sticking close to her hiding-place as the humans depart. [End log.]
