Kevlan begins, "Ah was jes' wonderin', if you were feelin' better 'n' all... ?" Bernadette smiles and nods. "Yes, much , thank you. Just came out of a nice long soak in the radiant tub." Kevlan is clad in one of his worksuits, and his cutter is slung over his shoulder. He smiles tentatively again, and at your offer, he answers politely, "Okay... " Bernadette smiles and steps farther back into the room. Bernadette steps inside the door leading to Bernadette's rooms. Bernadette has left. The door slides open, and you step inside. Bernadette's Suite The room is moderately furnished with a small dining table in one corner, just large enough for two, in a deep, glossy mahogany finish. Behind a partially closed, brightly colored pathwork drape you can see the foot of a bed with a matching colorful patchwork quilt atop its mattress. Built into the wall in the corner opposite the dining table is a small worktable with a terminal screen and keyboard, a simply constructed wooden chair in mahogany finish in front. A circular, vibrant blue rug is spread across the floor under the furnishings. Two doors exits the room: one leads out into the violet quadrant hallway, the other into the bathroom. The window is fully uncovered, and the afternoon sunshine warms the room comfortably. Contents: Bernadette Catering Unit Obvious exits: Drape Bathroom Door Kevlan shuffles in quietly after you. Kevlan looks around, earnestly, and ventures, "Right homey!" Bernadette smiles. "Thanks." She raises an eyebrow as she notices the cutter. "Going out into the ranges?" She sounds a bit jealous. Kevlan glances down at the thing, and nods a little shyly. "Ah, uh, fin'ally damped mah res'nance down, so Ah-Ah guess Ah won't git thralled right off th' bat, now." He smiles lopsidedly. Kevlan adds, "Ah, um, wanted t' jes' see if you was okay 'n' ever'thin'... " Kevlan blushes a little. Bernadette smiles and nods, sighing. "I think I've damped mine down enough, although there are still a few things keeping me from singing and cutting." You say "Your jaw still hurtin'?" Bernadette smiles at Kevlan and nods. "I'm fine. Thank you. Thanks for taking me to Morgan the other day, too. I probably wouldn't have gone on my own." She looks at your seriously as she says that last sentence. Kevlan blushes a little more, ducking his gaze, though he answers readily, "You was awful upset... Ah didn't wanna see you frettin'." Bernadette puts her complete hand to her jaw and moves it back and forth a bit. "Yeah, it still hurts, but not that badly." She smiles as she drops her hand. "I just don't want a repeat performance of the surgery, so I'm heeding Morgan's warning about not singing until it doesn't hurt anymore." Bernadette's eyes soften and she smiles tenderly at Kevlan for a moment before saying "You really are a very sweet man, you know." Kevlan turns scarlet, and you suspect he is very likely unaware of the sheepish half-smile that flickers across his face. "Aw, honey... " Bernadette grins and says earnestly. "I'm very fortunate to have you...." and she pauses before continuing "....as a friend." Kevlan's voice still holds a little tremor as he mumbles, "You're... a real nice friend, too... " He flicks a quick timid glance up, from behind the forelock that dangles in his eyes; has his hair gotten longer? Bernadette smiles and reaches up to push the lock of hair out of his eyes. Her hand lingers for a second before she withdraws it and grins. She says suddenly "Hey, let me grab my datapad and satchel and I'll come with you down to the hangar. I want to just check on my claims and make sure the paint is still fresh." Kevlan turns scarlet again, and doesn't quite recover his composure even as you quickly step back from him. But he smiles - again, probably unaware of the way the smile lights up his face. He answers simply, ".... okay!" Bernadette smiles at Kevlan and ducks behind the drape to her 'bedroom.' Bernadette pulls aside the drape and enters the sleeping area. She draws the drape closed behind her. Bernadette has left. Bernadette has arrived. Bernadette throws her satchel over her shoulder and grins. "Okay. All set." Kevlan hoists the cutter on the strap over his shoulder, and nods readily, the blush fading slightly, though he still moves in the manner of a shy child. "... okay!" The lift doors slide shut and you feel the slight *pop* of air pressure changes. A soft chime sounds and a computer-generated voice announces: "Ground Level (Hangar Sorting Main Reception Area)." His eyes are a smoky shade of blue, set off by thick dark lashes. Alternately awkwardly shy and earnestly forthright of manner, he speaks in a lazy, liquid accent, occasionally punctuating his words with unconscious, random drummings of his fingers on any available surface, or a tap or two of his foot. He is clad in a richly hued leaf-green worksuit, with its collar turned up behind his neck, and a myriad number of pockets in which to stick useful objects as he goes about his business. On his feet are sturdy coal-grey workboots. His eyes are glazed, and his face pale. He sways a little on his feet, and his drawl is thicker than usual when he tries to talk. His left hand looks misshapen under an awkwardly applied makeshift bandage; the gauze is only slightly stained, suggesting he gave the stumps of the missing two fingers quick attention after losing them. A sled with 'Harvest Gold' spelled out in bright paint on the hull slides precariously in for a landing. Bernadette steps out from the cramped interior of the airsled. Bernadette nearly stumbles in her haste to get out of her sled. Kevlan lurches out of the crookedly landed _Teesa_, and slumps against the side of the vehicle... Bernadette looks around the hanger and sees Kevlan. She blurts "Oh Kevlan!" and rushes over to him. Kevlan's left arm is curled tightly to his chest; with his right hand, he fumbles at the side of the sled, trying to stay upright. Kevlan looks up foggily at you. "Ah-Ah'm awful sorry," he mumbles mournfully. Bernadette breathes in dismay "Oh Kevlan!" again after looking at his hand. She slips an arm around his waist and ducks her head under his elbow to give him support. Bernadette says soothingly "Don't be sorry, Kevlan. It's not your fault. Let's get you to the infirmary, okay?" Kevlan mumbles something that might be, "Jes'... kinda bucked on me... " while leaning heavily against you, allowing himself to be led. Bernadette nods and continues in a soothing voice "Don't you hate when that happens? C'mon, love, let's get you down to the infirmary..." She repeats as she leads him away, unconscious of the term she used. Bernadette ducks into the ready room, escaping from the swirling wind. You escape the swirling wind of the hangar. Bernadette mumbles about how Morgan can fix him right up. Kevlan's head droops a little as he stumbles along beside you, his vision wavering in and out. Bernadette glances up at you and says in a firm voice "Hang in there, Kevlan. Stay with me. We're almost there." Bernadette turns from the window and strides to the lifts. You stride to the lift area. Bernadette thumbs the lift open and ushers Kevlan inside. "There we go...." she says as she deposits him into the lift, following. You step onto the lift. She presses for level 12. The lift doors slide shut and you feel the slight *pop* of air pressure changes. A soft chime sounds and a computer-generated voice announces: "Twelfth Level (Infirmary)." The doors *whoosh* open. Kevlan fumbles at the lift wall, trying to stay upright. "Ah-Ah-Ah cain't sing your claim," he mumbles plaintively. Bernadette pats his back with the arm she has firmly around him, "Don't you worry about that, Kevlan. Let's get you fixed up." Kevlan lurches out of the lift. At your destination, you step off the quiet lift. Bernadette emerges from the efficient lift. You walk into the clinic of the infirmary. Bernadette walks softly from the lift area. Morgan looks up from what she was doing and says "Galahad? Berni? What are you two doing here again?" She frowns as she surveys the two Singers. A half-conscious Kevlan, his right arm draped around Bernadette's petite shoulders, is helped into the Infirmary. Kevlan mumbles thickly, "Jes'.... jes' kinda bucked on me... like a l'il ol' pony... " Bernadette explains "Kevlan had an accident out in the ranges, Morgan..." She shrugs her shoulders and repositions herself to continue supporting Kevlan. Morgan hmmms and looks Kevlan over from head to toe, taking in the bandaged hand. "The cutter, of course. Thank YOU, this time, Singer, for bringing him in." Kevlan raises an abashed gaze to the medic. "Right outta mah hand," he mumbles. Morgan mutters about "How many time do I have to tell you Singers to be careful with those things..." as she gently takes Kevlan's hand and inspects the bandaging job. Kevlan blushes, trying to answer, but his mouth doesn't seem to want to work.... he sways. Morgan holds a hand out towards short term care. "Let's go have a look." Bernadette says "Woah, easy now, love. Let's follow Morgan, okay?" Morgan raises an eyebrow at the term the Singer addressed her companion by and enters short term care silently. Morgan enters Short Term Care You require the immediate assistance of a medic and enter the emergency room. Bernadette walks into Short Term Care looking for medical assistance. Bernadette says quietly to Kevlan "You have a seat here..." as she steers him towards a gurney. Morgan prepares a spray. "This will relieve the pain somewhat, Kevlan," she says as she administers the medication. Kevlan's expression suggests he is extremely ashamed of himself. As he's ushered to the gurney he addresses the two women dejectedly, "Ah said Ah'd he'p....!" He trails off as the hypo's contents are sprayed into his system. Bernadette shushes Kevlan, holding _his_ good hand this time and stroking the back of it absently. "I told you not to worry about that, Kevlan." Morgan looks at the small woman and then at Kevlan's hand as she unwraps the bandaging. Morgan inspects the nubs and swings a diagnostic unit into pace to survey the extent of the damage done, as she mutters "Nice job cleaning it up yourself, Singer." Kevlan subsides, his attention drifting as the painkiller drops a soft fog about his mind... "Th... thankee, ma'am.... " Bernadette holds Kevlan's undamaged hand assuringly as she brushes the hair out of his eyes with her bandaged hand gently. >tiny> Kevlan considers. He'd lost two fingers off his left hand before, but I think this time it's the other two, the two closest to his thumb. The middle finger's slightly longer than the first one; somewhat ragged cut, as one might possibly expect from his rambling description of the cutter 'bucking' in his hands. >tiny> Kevlan also arbitrarily decides that the inner part of the hand is scraped up a little, too, where the thumb joins with the hand. >tiny> Kevlan says, "The nerve endings are still in mild shock, as his symbiont is going 'whatthehell' and starting to try to rally together to get the fingers growing again.". Morgan slowly runs her medical scanner over Kevlan's body. You hear a slight hum and lights on the small, black gadget flicker. Two beeps sound, and a red light stabilizes, indicating a medical condition for Kevlan... His left hand looks misshapen under an awkwardly applied makeshift bandage; the gauze is only slightly stained, suggesting he gave the stumps of the missing two fingers quick attention after losing them. Kevlan shivers, the diagnostic scanner reporting mild shock setting in to his system. Morgan nods. "Shouldn't be too long before they regenerate..." she mutters and sets to work on his hand, testing for nerve damage. Kevlan's hand twitches very slightly; the nerves are there, if still somewhat traumatized by the only hours-old injury. Kevlan doesn't seem quite capable of focusing on anything in particular; his eyes are grave and sad as he mumbles, "Ah din't aim t' let go... " Morgan nods satisfactorily and sets about cleaning the stumps and applying a medicated salve to the wounds to aid against infection. Bernadette nods and smooths his hair back off his forehead again. "No one does, Kevlan. It's okay." Morgan pulls a tray over and removes some gauze and bandages, padding the wounded fingers (or lack thereof) and wrapping the hand expertly. Kevlan frowns vaguely, troubledly, rambling, "Ah-Ah-Ah'm real careful'th mah cutter 'n' _Teesa_. Din't aim f'r _Teesa_ t' lock up neither... " His eyes go more mournful as he fixes on Berni, blurting, "Ah'm sorry!" Morgan surveys her handiwork. Kevlan hangs his head ashamedly. Bernadette puts her forehead to Kevlan's and says "It's okay, Kevlan. Please don't worry." Kevlan settles a little, responding to the comforting tone. Morgan looks up at the two Singers. "Well, there isn't any nerve damage and the amputation is fairly clean. I don't think there'll be any problem with the fingers regenerating." She looks at Kevlan. "It's actually pretty fortunate you decided to lop off two fingers that you haven't lopped off yet." She smiles. Kevlan takes a moment or two before he realizes he's being spoken to. "Oh... yes'm.... " Kevlan raises his head with an effort. Morgan sits back in her chair and says "Now, as I told CS Marshall here the other day, there will be some itching as the new digits regenerate." She smiles. "I'll prescribe a tube of salve for you, too, CS Sharr, to relieve the itching when it starts." Morgan continues "Now, the best thing for you to do is go rest. But if you'd prefer, I can administer a stimulant to help clear some of the side effects of the painkiller." Bernadette nods, listening to Morgan give Kevlan a similar speech to the one she received only a few days ago, giving Kevlan's good hand a gentle squeeze. Kevlan starts to try to answer, frowning a little as his uncooperative tongue ignores orders from his brain... Kevlan tells Morgan in utmost earnestness, "Don't.. feel too good, ma'am.... " Morgan nods understandingly. "Let's give you a stimulant, then. It will help." Morgan prepares another hypo. Kevlan slumps a little sideways, his body telling him rather irresistibly 'you want to curl up in a ball right now'. Morgan hmmms. "He does need to rest, we'll just give him a very mild stimulant so that you can help him back to his room without needing a gurney," she addresses Bernadette. Bernadette looks worriedly at Kevlan. Kevlan pulls in a ragged breath, regaining enough awareness to mumble at Morgan, "Ah'll... go lay down, ma'am... ' Morgan nods and administers the hypo spray to give Kevlan just enough aid to get back to his suite. Bernadette looks at Morgan. "Thank you....again." Morgan smiles. "As I believe I said before, that's what I'm here for." Morgan looks at Kevlan. "Now, please do be careful, Galahad." Kevlan nods earnestly and gratefully to the medic. "Yes ma'am... " Bernadette puts her arm around Kevlan's waist again and helps him off the gurney. "Let's get you to your suite..." Morgan nods. "Don't forget to pick up the salve on your way out." Bernadette nods. "We won't." Kevlan stares down muzzily at his feet. Move it. He nods vaguely in Morgan's direction, as most of his attention is occupied by becoming mobile... Kevlan is led out. Bernadette says quietly to Kevlan, "Here now, just lean on me..." Kevlan mumbles thickly to Bernadette as the two exit, "Ah'll knock you over... " You're ready to leave the emergency room now. Bernadette is finished in Short Term Care and steps into the infirmary. Bernadette smiles at Kevlan and says "I'm a lot stronger than I seem..." and guides him to the front desk and explains she needs another tube of medication for Kevlan's fingers to the medic on duty. The medic nods and goes to retrieve the medication. He returns and hands it to Bernadette with a smile and then looks over Kevlan before returning his attention to his terminal. "... l'il bitty gal... " He wobbles as he finds himself halted long enough for Bernadette to speak with the attendant. Bernadette says "Come on, Kevlan. Let's get you home." Bernadette puts one hand to his chest to help hold him upright. "Easy now." Bernadette guides Kevlan out to the lifts. Bernadette says quietly "Our chariot awaits..." and helps him into the lift. Kevlan smiles foggily down at you, some evidently pleasant thought crossing his mind, though it doesn't seem to quite make it to his mouth as you steer him in. You step onto the lift. Bernadette steps into the lift after the doors *whoosh* open. Bernadette holds tightly to Kevlan's waist to help support him as she presses their floor with her free hand. The lift doors slide shut and you feel the slight *pop* of air pressure changes. A soft chime sounds and a computer-generated voice announces: "Tenth Level (Singer Level: Violet and Green Quadrants)." The doors *whoosh* open. At your destination, you step off the quiet lift. Bernadette emerges from the efficient lift. Kevlan mumbles slurrily to you, "Y'like purple, Berni....? Ah like purple... " You walk down the hallway. Bernadette enters the lift area. Bernadette smiles and nods at Kevlan. "Yes, purple's one of my favorite colors." Bernadette says "Here we are, love. Do you need help into your room?" Bernadette experimentally tries releasing him to see if he can stand on his own. Kevlan smiles in vague fascination at the swirled violet stripe as you escort him to his door... then, his eyes widen as the hallway tilts before him. "Lady Bright...! Ohh... " Bernadette lunges forward and grabs Kevlan, hauling him back upright and leaning him against her. Bernadette holds Kevlan against her with one hand and uses the other to maneuver his hand to his thumb plate to open his door. Kevlan mumbles sheepishly, "Ever'thin's spinnin' 'round.... " Bernadette nods. "I know, love. We'll get you lying down so you can take a nice nap..." Bernadette continues "When you wake up, everthing should be okay again." Kevlan smiles glassily at you - at the endearment? It's hard to tell, for his attention seems to wander. "Nap," he agrees as you guide him in through his door. The door slides open, and you step inside. Bernadette steps in from the hall. Bernadette guides Kevlan to his bed and sits him down, disentangling herself from his arm draped about her shoulders. Bernadette smiles at Kevlan, "Yes, a nice nap..." she pulls him boots off one by one, then, holding his calves, swings his legs up onto his bed. Kevlan's gaze fixes on you again as he mumbles dreamily, "Pretty l'il gal... awful nice... " Bernadette smiles at Kevlan and whispers "That's the drugs talking." She grins tenderly at him as she pushed him into a lying position on the bed. "Go to sleep now." Kevlan sinks slowly back, and blinkblinks at you. His brow furrows, as he tries to rally his senses enough for a reply; at last, he states decisively, "... uh-uh" Kevlan er, "uh-uh!" Bernadette smiles at Kevlan and watches him quietly to make sure he drops off to sleep okay. Kevlan's eyelids start dropping, growing heavier as his body, pleased to find itself horizontal, numbs his thoughts. He starts once, though, blurting, "Y-y-y'aint riled at me...?" Bernadette smiles and carresses Kevlan's cheek softly. "No, I'm not riled at you." The worried crease along Kevlan's forehead smooths, and he seems relieved. A faint smile curls his lips; his head turns slightly towards your hand, as he mumbles, "Soft... " Bernadette smiles as she gazes at Kevlan lovingly, and keeps her hand against his cheek. Kevlan's eyes drift closed... and his features relax, as he sleeps at last. Bernadette carefully extracts her hand and kisses Kevlan on the forehead before slipping quietly out of his room. Bernadette steps out into the hallway.
