Yeah, I understand the connotation Tolkien was using. My point is that at least with the movies, I didn't so much get that feeling from Jackson's portrayal of Rivendell. It was a beautiful and ethereal place, mind you, but just from a visual standpoint alone, I didn't get an impression of the place being home-like and cozy.

I was not however aware that there was a difference between Elrond's specific residence and Rivendell. I thought they were one and the same!

In British English, "homely" means "like home," connoting a sense of comfort and familiarity. Strictly speaking, The Last Homely House doesn't refer to all of Rivendell, but just to Elrond's place.

I've liked her work in general and have found that she does decent takes on many plot elements that come across as overused elsewhere, yes.

Woo. Priest may well get into the habit of opening genres for me that I hadn't otherwise wanted to explore... certainly she taught me that zombie books don't have to be all splatter... :)

Eh, there's very little difference here between geek-out and nerd-out--words are one of my geekeries so I tend to default to that.

But yeah, a French idiom pertaining to food? The deuce you say! ;)

Geek-out? Nerd-out! Not that there's anything wrong with that; it's *fun* seeing the link to the French idioms and doing a big fat nerd-out myself on how many *different* Frenchisms there are just related to *food*....

'course, Julia Child would not have been surprised. :)

(And now I have Mouret's "Rondeau" stuck in my head; it's best known to us Americans as the theme to _Masterpiece Theatre_... but is actually a French tune, which they *almost* didn't go with because, well, French, but nothing else they could find at the time really spoke to the show's creators... :)

I've got a few other Capercaillie albums, so yeah, I like 'em.

Still pondering the proper name for the big 'un. I'm pretty sure the little one is Chirp.

Benoit Bourque, okay! I love Le Vent du Nord as well but I don't play their earlier albums as much, so I am not sure if he ever did any lead singing for them. (I know Bernard Simard's voice of course, but!) Thank you for pointing that out and for coming by to read my review. :D

The lead singer in Chus Chatouilleux is Benoit Bourque. He's been a member of La Bottine for over 2 years now, also former member of Le vent du Nord and Matapat.

Very good review byt the way! Merci!
